Therapeutic LSD dosage?

Well this is my first post here and I wish it could be lighter, but I need help. Has anyone here successfully used LSD to help them with alcoholism or other drug addiction?
Just a little background here: One of my closest friends has been going off the deep end lately with his substance use. It's gotten to the point where nothing anyone says or does is helping anymore. My friend has a 45 year+ history with almost every substance imaginable and in the 25 years we've been friends, I've never seen him so lost.
He is an experienced tripper and in the past, it seemed to keep him somewhat grounded, but now he'll dose 400ug regularly with no effect. So I wonder what would be a good therapeutic dose for him to work out his priorities? Or is this a bad idea? He is not opposed to help in any way he can receive it; I just feel that I've exhausted all other routes and his mind isn't clear enough to find help for himself.
Sorry if this is a long post. Please be frank with your responses as I'm not really versed in using LSD this way (don't really even know if it's possible) and thank you for your input!

I've been a drug addict for at least 9 years. My drug of choice is xanax and oxycontin, with a little (read: alot) weed here and there.
I have been sober 13 months. I've stayed clear from all mind altering substances, including marijuana.
While I was in my addiction, however, I would consistently dose mushrooms and acid at least 3x a month. It helped with the cravings but I would ultimately go back to using the next day.
LSD won't magically cure his addiction. First, he has to WANT to stay sober, and be genuine about it. Secondly, if he wants to reap the full benefit of the psychedelic experience he should stay clear of all mind altering substances (yes, including and especially pot) for at least 30 days.
As for dose, that's difficult to answer. If 400ug does to him what 100ug might do to others (myself, for example), then it's hard to say. He should obviously take well above a threshold dose though.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. I feel that he does want to be sober, it's just that those "moments of clarity" so to speak are just so few and far between lately. In your experience, would you say that dosing psychedelics had a major impact in your decision to stop using, or did you use them more to take the edge off?

Not necessarily. Back then I never had the intention of quitting pills or smoking. My mindset wasn't geared towards getting clean.
Sobriety came to me against my will. Two years ago I was arrested and I spent the next 19 months in jail. I got to reflect on where my life was headed during most of that time. Being locked up didn't stop me from making a little bit of hooch, but when I drank, I was reminded of how miserable I was when I used. That was 13 months ago.
I still use mushrooms to this day, though. Not very often, but I have tripped recently and the difference between now and back when I was using is tremendous. The trip has a lot more depth when you're clean. This can be very useful for therapy. I won't say that I'm cured of my addiction, but it has helped me focus more on staying abstinent from alcohol, pot, and pills.

If he's taking 400µg with no effetc then either he's on some medication that's blocking the effects or his dealer is misinforming him as to the correct dosage on the blotter/in the liquid
Back in the 50/60s they treated alcoholics sucessfully with dosages ranging from 100µg upto 500µg

He did six months in jail about a year ago; used the day he was released. I'm glad you were able to use your time to get clean
As far as dosage goes, I've dosed off the same sheets (same batch) about a dozen times between 100-200ug each dose. They put me right where I needed to be. Certainly compared to previous experiences within this dosage range.
As far as counteractive medications, he takes a lot of pills, I don't know exactly what, but that's a good possibility.

Do you have any links to the 50s/60s treatments?

Just wanted to share an update here. ..
My friend has been taking it WAY easy on the drinking/drugging the past few weeks and looks/feels/acts about 100 times better than he was. His neighbour (whom was his main hook up/party connect) moved away. Haven't tripped together in a while, but we've been chilling a lot lately and it's been nice.
