First grow. Just need some input

So I decided I'd take my first swing at this. I'm new on these boards But I've been lurking a little to take in as much info as I could. I had 6 cakes total but only inoculated 2 at first just in case I messed something up. Those two cakes colonized perfectly with no contamination. They are now in the FC. I lost one cake of the other four to green mold but I'm not sure that it actually was mold but it's too late now. It went to the trash. I just wanted some input on it to make sure everything goes smoothly. Of the other 3 left one is colonizing just fine and two have an orange section in them. I was reading metabolites could cause an orange to the cake. I don't want to throw anything else out until I know for sure. But here's the setup. Input would be awesome. (I'm posting on my phone and it's my first post so bear with me if this doesn't work right away)

Hmm, it doesnt look too good On the first picture there seems to some kind of barrier running vertically down your jar, through the mycelium, on the right side of the middle "stain". It could indicate bacterias on the left half side (wet spot?)? I havent experienced anything like this, the colorful stuff, but I dont have too mych xp yet either. Wait and see what the pros says

Is the fruiting chamber looking alright? I dunked and rolled everything. 16 hours dunked. I've been doing 12/12 with an LED light. As for air flow I've been fanning it 3 or 4 times a day.

Do you have foil under the cakes? Or lids?...it's hard to see in your pics.

Using lids undeneath is fine...To be honest I'm not sure about your LED light...Shrooms like 6500k temp "daylight" bulbs...You can get them at Walmart, put one in a construction light or even a cheap lamp...IME...You are right about 12 hours on and 12 hours off...I would put the cakes closer together, mist when they look dry (use a cheap dollar store travel hairspray bottle)...puts out superfine mist and costs a dollar...fan with a clipboard or small hand fan to evaporate mist and stimulate pins.

Yeah thats some fineass dunking and rollin, Jordan and Chamillionaire would be proud! What color is the LED, and do you know its lux output? The fc should be fine as long as you have whole in the bottom and top, those are more important than the side ones. And that you lift it up above the surface its resting on so FA can get under it. Sticking the cakes closer together is also a neat trick.

Yeah when you put the cakes close together, they create a little micro-climate...IME...the more cakes, the better it works

I didn't put any holes on the top or bottom. I'll do that when I get home. And if I touch them to move them will that hurt or contaminate them?

Wash your hands with anti- bacterial soap...wear gloves...wash gloves with 70% ISO alcohol...Let dry...handle in one spot...be as gentle as possible...if it bruises blue a little (hopefully it won't) but if it does it will recover...if possible...just pick it up by the lid it's sitting on and move it that way

If you need somewhere to put the cakes while working on your FC...You can cut a 2 liter soda bottle up...they hold one cake perfect... I used one as a poor man's Fruiting Chamber once to isolate a cake I thought might be contaminated

The holes in the bottom and top are the most important. Touching them (physically) will hurt them a bit depending on the pressure, but nothing worth consideration. Getting significant contaminations has a fairly high probability though, depending on where your hands have been. Just use the lids or foil on the bottom to drag them. Or do as darkhome said with the acohol. What color is the LED? As he mentioned you should look for something in the 6kK area. See if you can find out its lumen output (I think I said "lux" in the earlier post, its late/early over here). Ill help you from there, but Im under the impression lately that the 2k lux barrier is somewhat "old standard" that ppl dont take too much to heart anymore??? Input?
EDIT: Dont forget to sterilize the soda bottle(s) with the alcohol too! I changed the picture.

you need to start over on your sgfc. SGFC and if those cakes are the same as the ones in OP I dont think they will do well at all, they are contaminated.

Was there a sour or musky smells when you opened those jars? I'd be wary just to open them. Also with your sgfc you need to have almost a foot of open space on all sides or you won't have the best fae

They are not the same cakes. I inoculated them in seperate batches just in case something like this happened I'd still have more to work with. The ones in the box are fine. I'm just going to start over on the fruiting chamber. I was following a guide from Midwest grow kits before I even found out about this website. Apparently it wasn't the best guide. As for the contaminated cakes I'll be putting them outside. Maybe something will happen. I'm just going to work with what I've got and get that right and start over with fresh spores when I get the process down. I didn't even realize I had it wrong until I posted this thread.

If youre putting them outside "to see what happens" then bury them, unless youve been lucky with the forcast every day the next week or two:)

So I've redone the sgfc. How are we looking now? And I couldn't find anything to elevate it with but I had an abundance of half finished soda bottles so that did the trick until I find something more stable. Looking good now? And how soon should I expect pinning? And when they do begin pinning do I just keep doing more of the same or is there anything I need to switch up?

Make sure you have 3-4 inches of well rinsed/drained perlite... Not sure from the pic how much you have there...interesting way to prop up the FC...lol...whatever works bro...keep an eye on the holes, sometimes it's easy for them to get clogged (especially the bottom ones)...other than that...mist when it looks dry...and fan after to promote evaporation and pinning.

Alright. I think I've got pins but I just want to get confirmation. These were not there before I went to work. This is the bottom side of the cake to the left.
