transfering files help

i'm finally getting ready with my new sytem, have some parts and orderd a few that were on offer and the best part is the going to be the crucial bx100 500gb ssd at a mere £122 ! with eveything else in there its going to be like jumping form my clapped out mini thats noisy as hell to a stream lining f1 and getting evey bang for my buck with some of the parts i got off ebay
the question : im preparing some things that werent already backed up on my external hd but i want to know if im likely to run into problems transfering files directly from the current ide hdd to the new sata/ssd once installed with os, i have an ide board that will plug into the new mobo so i can connect these ancient drives but is it going to recognise all the files i have there so i can move, not copy or will it somehow format when detecting these drives the first time? im thinking it will be ok unless i have a power cut during this ?

I don't understand what your concern is exactly. If you have a way of connecting the IDE drive to the new computer and the old drive still works, you should be able to transfer over the files no problem.

always backup to external media if you can.
always keep files you care about easy to copy (in a location you know) and on the external media ($100 for a tb usb drive).
if everything you NEED is available no matter what happens to your pc or the drive in it... then you never sweat

"Moving" files from drive to drive is essentially just copying them and then deleting the original (unlike moving files on a single drive, which is pretty much instantaneous and doesn't require copying or deleting the file contents.) If the old drives are obsolete anyway, it doesn't seem like there is much advantage to deleting unless you plan on using the space you're freeing up. If you just copy rather than move the files, you still have the old drive as a backup.

system files/hidden have to be done with xcopy, (well im making an assumption about your os). regular files, you just drag and drop, or ctl+c ctl+v...
it depends on how deep you want to go.

well with ubuntu and fedora... you HAVE windows 7... or 8... or xp...
and you cant get virii, and its harder to get hacked.
wine is windows integration... virtual box is windows virtualization (you install windows on a virtual machine)... i prefer the virtual box method.
most of the time i find that windows is just a clunky slow system.
and you'd be surprised how much faster your machine is without a virus scanner running all the time.

ok dude you're starting to sell me but i think first i'll stick with what i know and try this later down the road.
the other thing i s going form my system ide drives and amd dual core, to an ssd/sata system on intel quad with 4 times the ram at double hte speed will certain be anything but clunky...

what you do, is you download ubuntu. you put it on a usb stick... and boot into the live "testing"... and see what you think. doesnt install anything... and for darknet, download tails and put that on a stick... because if you run darknet in windows, you are completely traceable if anyone is looking..
but if you can get around a mac you can handle ubuntu... its easy.
