Ever heard of a graft being absorbed by stock?

What the heck is going on here? I did a graft a couple weeks ago or so, maybe less. It was a seedling (Juul's Giant x SS02) on peres. The graft was successful. After a few days in humidity, it was healed nicely and I left it to recover and begin growing. A few days ago, I noticed it was starting to show light green on the tip and was beginning to grow.
Now today, I just came to check on it for the first time in the last couple days, and thought for a second that the scion had fallen off. After a closer look though, I saw that it appeared that the scion had actually shrank! And not a little bit like it was just shrinking from dehydration, but it now was only like 1/4th it's height or smaller...
What happened to the graft? Only like 2 days ago, it was about an inch tall, and as fat as the peres and was showing new growth, now it is like somebody sneaked in my room and switched out my graft with another seedling graft of another MUCH smaller seedling...
Anyway, here's some pics- Seedlings I got the scion from

Here is the graft right after I did it. You can see it is as fat as the peres and it's about 3/4 in tall... It looked very healthy for over a week and never shrivelled or anything and even started putting on a little growth that was nice and green.

And here's what I found today... What the heck?

it failed. My variegate graft also appeared to be fattening, and it died

I tried to graft seedlings to pereskiopsis several times with the clip and transparent film method. and it never worked. But the first time i try humidity chamber with just 3 grafts, 2 of them take and are still nicely growing.
so i reccomend you to try it. i'm not sayng that this is the best method, but given my skill in grafting, if i did got results from that, anybody can

Damn kosmo you have a shit ton of grafting stock atm.
Have you been taking cuttings from your peres to multiply it for later grafts?
Also cRm if you have some pics of your seedlings atm and maybe a pic of the peres you're working with atm I might be able to help direct you in a way that could be useful for you to learn to graft a lil better.

Okay, I'll have to snap some pics and post em. Lemna both you and spaceman (in another thread) has recommended just trying a humidity chamber - that's definitely the way I think I wanna try next time.
I just thinking, the last time I saw the cutting healthy (right there when it was starting to green up on the tip), I noticed the peres had a couple of pups (sprouts? shoots? what's the terminology here). I picked them off and put the whole thing back to the side. Is it likely that pinching them off somehow hurt the graft, or was the fact that there were pups there a sign that the graft was going to fail?

Ive got my peres from the ten cuttings i bought in May to about 35. They are all outside in shade atm to grow out deep roots. They all have new growth, but nothing worth taking yet. Ill for sure start a thread when i ha e enough viable peres. Ive got at least 150 seedlings, and I am starting another 100 plus.
