Yea I like using popcorn. Its a lot easier to clean up so i dont hear any bitching about tiny birdseed all over the floor.

Not that it means much, but FUCK POPCORN.
If/When you switch to Rye Berries you will never ever look back. Yes those jars look "ready." Have you allowed any consolidation time after full visual colonization?

I recently switched to Whole Oats. I like it a lot better than WBS for similar reasons... only I'm the neat freak so I'm obsessing about the mess I'm making while I'm making it

Seems like more people are adopting it. I saw a thread the other day and thought to give it a try. I bought a 50 lb bag at a feed store for like $14.
My impressions so far is that it's a really forgiving grain when it comes to hydrating and that it's a lot easier to work with than WBS as far as cleaning, messiness, etc.
Here's that thread.

And the tek I used last time I prepped it which I quite liked.

I have begun working with them, however Rye Berries are going to be the most bulletproof method as far as grain goes. RGS is quite expensive in my area, but is also a great choice.

Ive always just simmered my popcorn from cold water to boiling then simmered for 60 min. never soaked over night and have never had a problem.
But then again a 50# bag for $15 seems well worth the extra 8 hours of waiting

That second tek I linked should be no soak.
