so I have about 20 jars of colonised rye that I am about to case, and I have one jar I already made a case with, pictures attached of it. For my first case I took the colonised rye and not being totally sterile (because you don't have to at this point?) and mixed it with a jar of pasteurized coir verm mix, and mixed the two together real good without putting a case layer on top. It colonized very fast like 2 days, so I put it in the FC. Should I have put a casing layer on top? It has been 8 days and still no caps. It gets 12 on and off and plenty of FAE and mist. Do you have any better ideas on how to make the case for my 20 colonized jars? Maybe mix 2:1 coir/verm to rye and put a layer of coir verm on top? Or am I doing everything A-OK and just being impatient? Thanks much, -John

First off, you actually made a bulk sub, not a casing. A casing is a layer of non nutritious material, like peat moss or verm, on top of a bulk sub after 100% colonization and it is not necessary with cubes.
What is the environment in your fc like? This will help us determine the possible issue. Also, 8 days without pins is not unheard of.
It can take weeks sometimes depending on the strain or variety.

Ok thanks for the clarification, and it is a shotgun FC with wet perlite and I fan it out and spray it down twice daily.

So you only let your bulk trays colonize for only 2 days?
Even if it looked fully colonized by day 5, you should still give it 7-10 days after spawning.

Don't limit it to how many times you fan and mist. Mist when it looks dry and fan after you mist. May need it more than twice a day. There should always be small beads of moisture on the surface of your sub. Two days to colonize isn't very much time. May not have been fully colonized inside to begin with. Give it a little more time and good luck!

Patience.. it is the only way to win in this hobby! It's hard not to get excited and fruit it right away BUT it's best to just give a few days after full colonization to kick things into gear. Your fruiting chamber sounds good tho

Crumple a transparent plastic bag and put on top of it.
