Metal Trash Can Straw Pasteurization

Hello all,
I just bought a metal trash can from home depot and put silicone in the crease at the bottom just to be sure it was water tight, although it didn't look like it would leak anyway.
I am killing time to wait for the silicone to dry so I can soak my straw and then pasteurize it after that with my propane heater stand.
As I'm looking online, I haven't seen much positive reinforcement to this metal trash can idea. Is the galvinization of the metal dangerous and going to contaminate my straw and thus contaminate the mushrooms I grow from it?
Any replies would be really appreciated, because now I am just holding up until I find out for sure this is gonna be ok before I go any further.
Thanks!

Should work fine. I use a steel drum, anything that holds water would work. I've even seen someone turn a plastic pail into a pasteurizer using an electric heating element.

That's all I've been able to find out. Anytime I searched posts about using a metal trash can, I couldn't find anyone who actually had. They were all replies telling them they should just go find a metal drum. Then I saw a few posts about galvanized steel not being good to use...so I am here looking for some input.
Thanks for your reply!

Galvanized steel is coated with zinc and can burn off releasing nasty vapors. I would NOT use it, nor eat anything thats been stewed in essentially a zinc bath.

So zinc does not burn till around 1600F. Thats the point zinc becomes zinc oxide and makes the nasty welding fumes. I highly doubt even the outside of the pot would reach that temp even with the flames touching it, which they should not be. However i would worry about zinc nitrate, or sulfate forming with the substrate water. Im no chemist so i cant tell you what temperature it takes to make those compounds. Id say play it safe and go get a 55 gal drum, open top with lid preferably. They are cheap and readily available. And the worst thing you can get in your substrate is iron oxide which just transfers to ever so slightly more iron in your shrooms, which is okay as iron is a good thing in your diet.
This supersedes all previous statements

i think lipa said he was using one to cook his grains in. but he had a spigot in the bottom or something. you could also put another one with holes in it inside, then make a little frame to hoist and drain your straw without having to change the water.

Yes I use zinc coated pails and trash cans to soak grain and boil synthetic mixes in. There is nothing to worry about. A friend of mine has a large zinc coated wood burning hottub.
