What motivates you to keep on working? Got a 40hrs job I now have more money then I know what to do. I only buy Rcs and plant and cacti and pay my rent pretty much
I just keep on working because I kinda like my job and I don't wanna lose it and have to find a new one that could be shittier
So what motivates you?

Money. I simply get pleasure from having a slightly bigger number in the bank account every couple of weeks.
It's like a video game.

I work hard lately and my body is more in tune I can do acrobatics and lift heavy things, I do it for solidarity/strength and to participate in the material world.

A job that I enjoy doing, is usually motivation enough.
If i'm not happy somewhere, the money isn't enough to keep me at 100%.

Dude use that money to go on vacation etc. Or invest it in something maybe? Are you really complaining about having too much money?

Yeah usually if i like what im doing and the money's decent ill stick around. I quit a job a few months ago even though i made bank because the hours were brutal: 8pm-3am (Im also a college student taking 4 classes per semester so this was very hard to balance)
Cant wait to graduate and start doing something other than restaurant jobs, etc.

I can't take vacation because of my job , and not sure how to invest but in drugs I have like 12k in the bank but spend nearly 600 a month on the internets

Boredom.
I'm starting my first semester at San Francisco State next semester. I'm already enrolled in my classes: genetics, biochemistry I, quantitative chemical analysis lecture and lab. I'm going to be working my fucking tail off pretty soon.

Yeah I'm kinda dreading it, I don't know much about what I'm up against but I seem to remember being pretty weirded out by gen bio's cursory glance at it. Some weird fucking units. Kilomendels or whatever. I'm going to give it an early start once I get my textbook.
Quant lab seems like it will be pretty straightforward though, and biochemistry looks fun.

Biochem is cool. Lots of memorization though, pretty straightforward. Genetics is hard because its definitely a different kind of thinking when it comes to problem solving. You'd think it would be easy because all youre doing is simple arithmetic with fractions. In reality, the difficult part is knowing what and why you're multiplying these specific numbers

Yeah, it was really confusing from what I saw. I'm going to take special care not to blow it. Biochemistry is pretty similar to ochem though right? That's my shit, I'm pretty good at learning chemical nomenclatures and reaction rules and stuff. That's fun to me. And quant lab is just the laundry list of titrations, yeah?

I never took quant lab.. are you a biochem major? and I thought o firm was way harder than biochem for what its worth. Its just like glycolysis, ETC, Krebs cycle, etc in a way more detail.

Yeh, biochem major. Quant lab is an elective for me, I guess. It seems like a useful sort of skill/knowledge base to have, though, and I like puttering around in the lab. Maybe I could get a job at one of those weed testing labs. That would be awesome.

Yeah im really good in the lab too.
Especially organic; although,im in physics 2 lab right now and it absolutely blows. Magnets and lenses and building circuits. My school kinda has shitty equipment though so that's probably the source of most of my frustration

I did this 5-6 years ago and iirc the less likely it is for a couple of genes to undergo recombination the less distance between them in centimorgans. IDK shit sucked tbh.

Ah yeah, I was never a fan of physics lab, chemistry is way more fun. I did physics 2 a year ago. It was weird because the professor was right out of grad school and he had no plan what so ever for the labs and we literally had to improvise experiments from a ramshackle assortment of incomplete physics toys that demonstrated whatever we were studying at the time. It wasn't so bad when we were just dinking around with magnets but then when we got to the circuit board stuff the lack of direction got really hard to work with.

Well since the centimorgans correspond to recombination frequencies you cannot assign a fixed megabase length to a centimorgan since recombination varies across the genome and therefore the length of a centimorgan varies correspondingly. Its boring oldschool genetics, never liked it. Molecular genetics on the other hand is much more intriguing and useful.

That's why I'm gonna start early with the genetics, as soon as my textbook shows up in the mail. Hell, I think I'm already off to a good start now that I'm thinking about what the fuck a centimorgan actually represents. Thanks for contributing to the mitigation of my inevitable nightmare, plambe.

Ochem is definitely my favorite. I'm hoping something at uni will be similar for me, I had so much damn fun in that class. I wish I could just do ochem all the time. When we got to reaction mechanisms and synth pathways I had to pinch myself, that shit was so much fun. Hard science just shouldn't be that much fun. Sometimes I still wonder about my major.

Lol. Come to reality bro... My answer was short & sweet. I could've written a paragraph or two about what motivates me to work but at the end of the day that's whats going to pay for your meals & more.
Do you work for free "to better society"?
I don't understand why half the threads turn into a pissing contest. Just answer the damn question to the OP & move on. Sheesh...

Seriously though, my main motivation is boredom. I am very much a type B personality and I'm pretty much happy as long as I get to eat.

i was just busting your chops for such a lame boring ass answer. it's ok. we all work to pay for our meals and our shelter, and you know, nothing else but...because we live in a world that values nothing. it's OK.

Gives me a sense of purpose, and normalcy(which for me, is sometimes kind of a necessity). I want to be proud of the work I do, regardless of what it is. If the environment is stimulating or fast-paced enough(like working as a bartender or server even), I will enjoy it - -but really what I want is a career that constantly intrigues me and keeps me on my feet, and the ever-changing state of the tech industry does just that. I want to be able to talk for hours about what I do.
I find my current job challenging but very gratifying, and hardly boring. I'm making a career shift that's gonna take a bare minimum of year to get in gear, going back to school for it, mainly motivated by the demand for work, I also find it gratifying and challenging - and after having spent the last 5 years working in dark theatres at very odd hours for pay that isn't all that great compared to the workload, I kind of crave the 9-5 office life, oddly enough. I also like that what I'm going into can literally take me anywhere in the world(within reason, as I doubt the Masai tribe is looking for a web developer anytime soon), I even have to option to work for myself - which I doubt I'd ever do, at least fulltime, as the stress of constantly being on the lookout for work is one of the reasons I'm tired of working in live entertainment.
I'm really gonna miss the work environment and just how eventful and exciting it is, but if I really missed it I could probably find a way to do it in a smaller capacity.

metaphilosophy. thinking. realization. ethics. art. motivation.
i certainly don't find the mundane motivating.
like making money? what a shite reason for anything. it's what you do with your money that counts, if anything.
and if eating out is one's only desire in life, or purchasing expensive item's then...well, the world we make consumes unto itself.

You definitely seem like you work at a small ma and pa coffee shop somewhere in washington, not seattle because that would be too mainstream obviously. And the coffee shop doesn't actually serve coffee because that's also too mainstream.

I'm a barista. I got mad coffee slinging skills. Check out today's morning pick-me-up.

I could do better, but my burr grinder can't go fine enough to produce a really rich crema.

Definitely money. I am a contractor and do all the work myself, so I get paid on my production, most days I average $500 a day, on good days up to $1,000.
