Bacteria on tub bottom
    #21940799 - 07/14/15 06:55 AM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Hello,
I´ve done a bulk with straw pellets and around the same amount of colonized rye jars (around 6).
Over 90% of that brick is just looking nice white and healthy and is already consolidated but today I removed the trash bag around my tub and saw excessive water on the ground and some kind of our less nasty "friends" the bacterial "slime".(transparent jelly)Theres also one little and one 3x4 cm area of straw that isnt clonized because of the water and maybe already home of some jelly.
I already know this kind and I know if your tub smells like something ferments its much other and you can toss it, I already done so with an older project.
The point is, smell isnt really a clue, its just amazingly shroomy, so I just removed the excessive water and dried my tub walls.

Now I have a few options:
I could take out the massive block, wash of the slime and just put it back->could possibly break, i could hurt my mycelium, contams
Before someones will say "just washing of, are you serious?", I already done it with a small handy block and it was fine and easy and mycelium beneath that was fine and felt like the normal areas.
I could also just let it stay that way, checking for excessive water and wait for just a first flush for some prints and after that I could risk option one.
What do you guys think about?

Tip it and let it drain out. Don't take the block out. It'll seriously promote side pins. You don't want a space between the chamber and the sides unless you know exactly how to dial it in and keep the surface hydrated.

Thank you for your answer.
I will do so, but I already have gaps mainly on the shorter side of the tub, there I could possibly put my tiny finger in it.
But I read this is through consolidation and my trash bag is covering 2-3 cm more than the substrate layer, so if a few side pins appear, they should grow to the top because these gaps are very dark, am I right?(a few will maybe not)
I found the jelly not very agressive, so is it fine if I just flush until the substrate is sucked out without any harm?

Not necessarily. If there's a fermentation smell increase your gas exchange and remove excess water and see if it gets better after a couple days. Even though there's no odor this time I'm assuming your using the same techniques as before so I'd still try it since there's obviously excess moisture.

Ah didnt know that, but however the one I tossed was one of the first and that smell gave me a bad feeling (btw this was just coir cased but with wet spotted cakes) :scat:, but I will remember next time
if necessary :tongue2:
First time Im using this tek(nearly successfull), I just crumbled my cakes and cased it with coir before and gave me good results.
I just see how humidity builds up again, the walls get foggy.
Thank you, I wasnt really worried, but this gives me even a better feeling that I dont even have to fix much.
