I love MGs and I decided to share pictures of mine. I threw seeds in my garden in spring but sadly they germinated in late may after a week of rain. Next time I sow them I'll water the soil everyday. I hope I'll have a ton of flowers. Does someone know what triggers flowering with this specie ?

Some sweet potato. I saw it at the store and I was forced to grow it.

Post pictures of your MGs !

Apparently they do well in crappy soil, I cannot help as I just planted some last night coincidentally. The plant is looking good.

MG are a nuisance plant in my garden.. lol. . I hate to say it but its true. If I do not keep up on it. . it chokes out the roses on the north side of my house.
I rip out LOTS of it every year. Maybe I should start saving the seed. I have the large white flowered variety.
Good luck with yours. I know some people love them.. for me. . they have become a problem-plant.

My climate is too hot and too dry for them to thrive in summer. If I don't water them they would die in a week.

Haha im hoping they dont become a problem, i put them with one of my outdoor mushie beds too, hopefully it wont overpower them i put 5 6qt dub tubs i barried out there lol. I got the heavenly blues, i love the looks too tho. If it does turn into a issue what should i do, clip it at the bottom? Or pull it by the roots?

Also, I put them in a container and have heard many do the same for the reasons everyone has listed....nasty plants.

Ipomoea purpurea is an invasive weed in Portugal. Here's a picture of it overwhelming a telephone pole.

To - Kushroom
Many varieties spread via underground runners, and are vines at the same time.. the will (crawl) underground. In my opinion, they need to be confined to say maybe 3-5 pot. with a secure water catch underneath that you can check for spreading roots. I am not joking. In the pacific northwest's climate, they go.. AHHH semi-rainforest.. and BOOM. When I weed the north side of my house, I use a small hand claw, and am forever ripping out the traveling root systems.
I took over my property, from my grandmother and Great grandmother. My great grand mother, planted them long long ago. I can remember her morning glories years ago. (granted back then she maintaned them to a manageable level. The land here had been dormant for a decade, before I came in, and began to restore it. I'll say, I should thank you all for making me rethink Morning Glory. I have always seen the plant as a weed, and a problem. To some of you, I am sure you would enjoy growing it. That, is what makes me reconsider. I'll save some seed from mine, I guess.
