Baidu
    #21939844 - 07/13/15 11:08 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I switched web browsers

I know, many of you use chrome, you think it's great and fast and shit
others of you use firefox, I was using firefox and it was good under XP
but I've now been cursed with windows 8 on a package machine and firefox
crashes more than chrome did for me on XP, I didn even bother on this
machine because I hate chrome

anyway, this girl I've been talking with for the last 6 months said I
need to try Baidu Browser and I blew it off for the last 4 months
because I didnt think it was worth a shit since it was based on the
Chrome engine

for the last 2 weeks I've been fucking around with it, I havent restarted
it even once, I havent had a single crash, it's faster than both chrome and
firefox even with 4 windows with more than a dozen tabs in each, it has a
built in download manager, a bit torrent client and I dont know if it's
because the servers I happen to be downloading from are faster or it's the
browser but the fucking downloads are blindingly fast for me, a 2gig d
download would normally be a couple of hours under firefox and they're 10-2
minutes with Baidu

it also has a built in snip/cap tool and a host of other features, all the
extensions for chrome that I've tried also work with Baidu, I am thouroughly
impressed with this shit

try this shit, you may find it to be better

Hi Prisoner,

I use Chrome and never really had a problem with it, but I'm definitely going to give this browser a shot. I didn't know much about Baidu until I began studying Mandarin Chinese, but ever since I've been a fan. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

..based on the same code source as Google Chrome (but an older build, I believe).

Less secure (from a company known for privacy issues), more spyware/adware bundled and shoddy user download techniques, uglier interface with less screen space, and built-in extensions that you may not need (but could get elsewhere if you did need them with other browsers--and, really, do you want a bittorrent client built into your open, insecure browser?).

I believe the only thing I've read that has been good regarding Baidu has been the speed on Android devices.

Your download speed should have nothing to do with the browser your using, but rather the server it's connecting to and your own connection.  For an example, downloads from a web server in Chrome may be only 2MB/s but in Steam they may be as high as 5MB/s--this is because Steam has superior servers and user management due to traffic.. not because Chrome is a worse client than Steam.

I'm not even sure I've seen a browser that doesn't have a built-in download manager?

I'm pretty sure Baidu/Spark looks almost exactly like Chrome but has extra tool bars.  Where does your hate for Chrome fall into play?  Is it an issue with Google?

What are the specs of your machine?  Going from XP to Windows 8 makes it seem like you've been out of the game for quite some time.
..and what exactly are you saying you like about it?  You like that it comes bundled with extensions?  How are you measuring this "faster"-ness?

I had had chrome running 24/7 for at least a month. My only complaint is that it eats a lot of ram. How much do you have? I have 16GB and if I have a lot of tabs open (15+) chrome takes up like 6gb

Might want to look into that.  Are you using a recent version?  Can you give an example of what websites you might be browsing?  Chrome is surely a memory hog (for good reason), but those numbers seem excessive.

I can play full-length movies in two windows, and have 15 tabs of YouTube videos open (playing), along with the multitude of Shroomery/research tabs I have open (yes, I just tested) and it still doesn't hit 6GB.  Have you tried using the built-in task manager to see what tabs are causing the trouble?

If it's still an issue, you could look into memory reduction techniques/disabling some of the pre-rendering/duplicate processes that other browsers don't feature for security/stability and still come out with a top-notch browser.

security is something you make, no browser is secure, I've had no experience
with adware or spyware from this browser in the last foew moths of tinkering
with it and a few weeks of solid use

I'ma level with you, I dont use bit torrent because I'm not a fucking retard,
might as well download from mediafire or mega if I were going to torrent shit
but there's a lot of people here that do use torrent clients

the specs arent important, I didnt build a game machine, it's retail box to run
autocad for work, as for what I lie about it, I've pretty well spelled it out in
the original post, stability and speed, that speed measured by my own
observations downloading files from specific servers, again, it was already
touched on above

id like to see some video's of you browsing the web on each browser, and a stopwatch to time it all, preferably while naked, anything less would just be uncivilized

Most of the time, I have 2-3 videos buffering along with tons of tabs full of hd pictures, pdf's, pandora streaming, and then just a bunch of other random tabs open \

When load gets heavy, it usually means I have open a lot of tabs with huge pictures on them, like 20 or so.

Each tab seems to be taking up like 50-100mb of memory each

I don't mind it taking up memory, and I have actually found that when I have other memory intensive programs open (namely games that take up 4-5gb each) that chrome eats up less and less of my memory.

Pale moon is the best browser I've ever used :3

Firefox optimized for 64x and stripped down in all the right ways - sleek - fast - but beefy in ways that matter, in dev etc. It's damn good.

It is pretty easy to build a computer, don't think you could do anything physically to the parts of a computer to cause only google chrome to crash
