The lil Dragon fruits like these?
I grew those out from seed earlier this year but I got the seed in a trade last year. This was my first ever Dragon Fruit and I figure it would have been sweeter if it was of the deep red variety. Anyways when I go back I'm gonna buy a few to make jam out of
Good to hear about your germination rate on your maters I wish it was easier for me but for some reason I can't make it work for me as well as it does for you May have something to do with the variety I collected those seeds from
I'll let you know if My Kanna picks back up and same for you. I think one of us will get these babies down pat

Wow, someone's been keeping busy!
As for the variegates, it may be because they are generally "weaker" of less vigorous. The lack of chlorophyll may play some part on it, because it limits energy available for vital processes. Dunno really.
Your Ferocactus looks perfectl normal to me, older areoles and growth eventually disappear like that - and with it the proof of our shortcomings, like sunburn or insect damage. Aren't cacti great?
That method of collecting seed from gooey fruits is... interesting. Beats the Kopi Luwak method of obtaining coffee any day!

Hey spacey, this just crossed my mind. What are your plans for your passifloras over the winter? They grow native locally, so do you plan on bringing them in for the winter or letting them rough it outside in the pots?

Well The ones in the pots I'll probably bring in and let go dormant with all my others in my bedroom
But the ones in the ground I'll just leave.

Shit I have about 10 Passiflora plants
I'm thinking about uploading a shit ton of pics I took today of some plants so be on the lookout and I'll get them up when I catch some free time.
I'm actually thinking about just starting a new thread because it seems like not many people even view this one anymore and I have a few questions about some of the plants I have and I figure I'll actually get answers if I start a new thread.
What do you think homie?

You could start yourself another. I like how much this one has grown, personally. But you may be right about getting answers to certain questions needing a different thread to get the attention to them to get the answers you need. (Did that sentence make sense?)
Are you doing any veggies in your garden this fall/winter? You gonna keep anything going outdoors during the cool weather?

I got ya buddy and it made perfect sense
Well when it comes to outdoor cultivation I don't really have much I can work with in that manner. I do plan to leave a few plants outside through the winter like opuntias, clematis, hollyhocks ect. "along those lines" but I will be bringing a lot on non cold tolerant species indoors "which is gonna be a major burden for sure" but oh well it needs to be done.
Anyways I've got my eye on a double wide and 7 acres of land that should hit the market soon so I might have to do some serious transplanting in the winter sometime
For Veggies I was planning to grow some out under lights but only if I'm able to upgrade the ones I already have. That way I can use these older lights to grow some tomatoes, peppers and maybe a couple others depending on what this winter calls for
I'm mainly planning to start a SHIT TON of different seeds this winter "cacti and garden plants for next year and maybe a couple other surprises if I can work them in" but mainly spend my time getting back into growing mushrooms "Mostly Edibles" to make a lil extra cash and to keep myself busy when I have free time
What are your plans for the winter?

Well, I've never done anything during the fall and the cooler months, but this year I'm trying to keep myself from staying inside so much, so I recently just planted a bunch of cabbage, late onions, broccoli, collards, lettuce, spinach, etc. Now that you mention it, I will probably try to do some edibles over the winter as well. Of course, I'm gonna start a bunch of veggie seeds later on this year for spring planting. It's been a while since I did any myco work (since last winter it seems). I've got some King Oyster I did one time that worked pretty good I wanna try again.
7 acres is quite the plot of land, though! I can't imagine how much stuff you will grow with THAT much! If I had that much land, I would probably get some livestock going too. Definitely chickens and pigs, maybe even a cow if I had the cash....

Yea buddy I already have a chicken coop in the works and I have 1 wild bunny I'm raising in hopes to start a bunny pin for when you want some wilder meat and bunny shit for the garden
The Chicken coop I'm placing on a trailer so that I can move it over the garden through the cooler months allowing the shit to fall right where I want it and the rabbits will be up off the ground as well so I can more easily catch their goodies
With 7 acres I'll also be able to start some hives in the back like I've REALLY been wanting to do these past couple of years but I haven't placed an order yet so it'll probably be another year before I can work that one out.
I've had cows on my mind for awhile now as well but it'll be a lil while because I would have to fence in parts to make it possible but don't think I won't get it going
Pigs I don't want because growing up in the summer driving past pig pens and noticing the NASTY smell that encompasses it turns me off.
Anyway those are some of my plans and shit I could use some help if you ever wanna come chill a lil while but I'm not the kind of guy that stays in the house 24/7 soo there will be a lot going on

Yeah, I've got a rabbit house too. Sadly, there's no rabbits in it at the moment... I need to get some more... I loved having them around when I did have them tho. Always a supply of soil additives available with them around. Plus, rabbit meat is so dang healthy and delicious! (No offence to your bunny, of course) I need to get some more... BTW, did you ever settle on a name for your little rabbit?
I think if I had a pig (which I do plan to do at some point), I would just raise it for meat. Meaning, I would buy a little piglet, and raise it for 8 mo to a year and slaughter it. Apparently that is about the time it takes to raise one to slaughter size, from what I read....
One of these days, I'm gonna have to make it up there to watch a true artist at work, though! And help too, of course. Sadly though, due to stuff going on IRL, just paying the bills is becoming a struggle, much less planning a road trip.... One day, though...

nice thread! thanks for invite. lots of ideas here...and I learned a few things, like my habanero's with funny shape are called "paper lanterns"
The Gold Metal tomato is new for me. But it reminds me of a huge gold tomato a friend grows that originated in Serbia. I saved seeds from one; very few though.
Amish Paste - planted one late and was amazed how much it produced. On the list for early planting next year.
Also saved seed of a cantaloupe called Delicious that has short shelf life due to a bit of a crack it gets when ripe, but oh so sweet and delicious. And saved seeds from another cantaloupe that had green flesh, super sweet, no idea of name but not hybrid- grown on organic farm nearby so may be able to track down. Friend who gave it to me who works there didn't know name.
Have you grown fava beans? I hear they grow well in cool weather and was wondering about a fall crop of them.

Have you done anything with your passion fruits yet?
Hate to hear about your back! Hope you heal up quickly. Hopefully you have something growing in that garden of yours to help with the pain.

I'm in climate zone 7b.
I would suspect that if you live in the PNW then you would have to bring it in during the colder months but out here in the ground they grow wild.

Ok guys 1 more picture dump for this thread.
I've been chilling and listening to some calming music after getting my hands on a med to ease my back up a lil so I need to get to it while I feel like it
I probably won't be naming many of these because I know many of you all know what's there but if anyone has a question feel free to ask
 P. alba leaves from a good friend
 Rooting Milkweed.
 Passion fruit ripening
 Milkweed seed pods opening.
New growth on some of my cacti.
Rooted Peruvianus scion and another trich scion rooting.
 Pineapple.
Some Fungi I found growing that I don't know the names for.
A small passion fruit in the first pic and in the second pic you can see some seeds on top of the perlite in one of my graft containers. This is what I often do with fruit seeds in my garden just spit them everywhere and wait to see what happens
Here are those cacti I picked up at the Farmers Market. I don't really like how the first one looks.
Just a few of my Key lime plants.
A few cuttings I have setting to the side rooting.
Last nights work to be done. I repotted these rooted cuttings to larger more long term pots.
I don't know if everyone remembers that fox I found hit by a car on the road awhile back but this is his hide still setting in salt. I really don't know what to do next but I know it's preserved and ready to go. Such a beautiful animal
Hope you all enjoy

lot going on! thanks for the plant movie
Do you ever have issues with scale on your key lime trees? I have 2 little meyer lemon trees with it. Probably should repot but they have fruit and look healthy. Was spraying Tea Tree Hemp Dr Bronners. Now spraying neem oil mixed with Dr Bronner.
Grows wild where you are? wow. Passion flower was growing wild in Mexico's Sierra Gorda area in August. Got this beauty's pic. Sure was tempting to attempt smuggling.

what's your favorite clematis and why?
