Greetings
Could anyone offer their opinion as to whether this is or not a cubensis. The stem didn't feel as I thought it should but it's been some years since I last had contact with this species, and never in a natural environment.
Will update with prints within 24hrs.
Many thanks

Cap: 2-3cm in diameter, slighty darker than appears in the picture .

Nope, P. cubensis only grows in sub-tropical/tropical climates and never from wood. Also your lacks a veil and any bluing.
Psathyrella seems likely.

Ps. cubensis doesn't grow in the wild in the UK.

Wow, I really was reaching...
To correct myself it Cyanesens I suspected from the visual clues. But it's obviously not that either.
I'll take more care before I rush to post in future. Must be the imminent Ps. Semilanceata season which has me all impatient and excited.
Thanks all for the input and lack of mockery.

Hey, Psilocybe cyanescens will come up around September n even that's kind of early usually the patches come up best in November, it's still too early yet for actives in the UK, usually you can see some early Psilocybe semilanceata now and again, but basically it's too early and hot yet, it's going to be a later season this year buddy i seen one that tried to fruit but aborted in June in a cold spell and i think angler seen the same in over the water in Europe, really weird year.
Right now the only active you want to be hunting is: Panaeolus cinctulus.
And people won't hassle you here this is a pretty mature forum full of smart people mate, that's why i use it
Any more questions feel free to message me and i will provide descriptions and variations with photos as i wouldn't want to flood this thread.
-------------------- I give you the choice of 2 pills.
With each containing one of the following: Cyanide... Psilocin... Would you take the risk? Didn't think so. This is why Positive Identification prior to consumption is important.

Appreciated Blazeyy. TBF I've never seen a lib in july. Even though we at times have the necessary temps and rainfall up here. I suspect it's the variation of temps throughout the day cycle that trigers fruiting, but that's probably an oversimplification.
But hey, I'm ever the optimist.
