My girlfriend took this photo a couple days ago in mountains of SC Pa....She didn't get a gill shot or even look at them but it was growing in a area where a lot of pluteus sp. grow.
Has anyone ever seen something like this?...I think it's just a mutation of some sort.

It's not something you'll see ever day, but you'll see stuff like that most years if you're out hunting a lot. Laccarias seem to have similar things happen relatively often here in Colorado.

Do you happen to recall the specific term for that kind of mutation? Its on the tip of my tongue and its bugging me that I can't remember it!

Yep, that seems right, thanks! This site claims its connected to contamination by petroleum based materials?

You guys are awesome...Ghostly and Byrain, toxicman....I have yet to run across one like this ...she found it in a state park on a day that I wasn't with her. I doubt petroleum would be a issue, though...this is an old park and a long way off from the road. It may have been a old fire trail once though.. There has also been a ton of rain there recently...maybe that has something to do with it.
