oyster eating wet spot ???
    #21936535 - 07/13/15 09:26 AM (8 years, 6 months ago)

hi everybody,

here is the story:

this jar had oyster and wet spot growing in it, 4 days ago the myc was already quite present in this jar, but would not colonize where there was wet spot.
2 days ago it was fluffy white but with 80% of the surface (against the glass) occupied by wet spot, kind of like this but much much more obvious:

now the worst side looks like this:
and the best like this:

I would say 90% of the wet spot has disappeared, and since I provided this gap at the bottom of the jar the wet spot seems to dry out and the myc is taking over !!

WTF???
So myc can eat wet spot or what?

Kinda. Regardless it doesn't kill it completely. And as such you will have diminishing returns. Spawn that had bacteria like that when mixed into bulk can, and most of the time for me has succeeded. However it also greatly weakens the myc as it colonizes through it, highly increases chances of other contaminations in bulk and lowers yield.

In bulk bacteria is rarely a concern because in the substrates they have beneficial microbes (bacterias and such) that mycelium LOVES. And it fights off the bacteria in the spawn. This is why pasteurized bulk can be spawned in open air.

There is a problem though. Don't expect a super high biological efficiency.

This jar from a clone is bacterial and is considered 100%. I'd say your jars are 100% and ready for spawning.

Turned into:

This jar from the same clone, which is completely clean:

Notice it isn't thick white/cottage cheese looking. That's another indicator of bacteria being present.

Turned into:

Clean spawn easily gives me twice the yield. That's another thing I've noticed too.
