This is the method i'm doing next.
Why the gypsum vs verm? Doesnt wbs have moisture issues compared to rye? I thought verm was used with wbs to hold excess moisture if theres too much or not enough... im definitely making a strainer this way. I'd rather have one big one than two small ones. And the method alone seems to take ess time. Thanks!

I put gypsum in with my soak water.
I do not put verm in with my wbs when jarring - proper soak/strain achieve proper moisture content.
I do include verm when I pasteurize substrate, coir for me

I put wbs in my pc jars with verm, and the first transfers are almost 1 1/2 weeks and arent 50% yet. Im about to do more agar jars and more wbs jars. I used columbian rust and was going to get something more agressive, growth wise... I just gotta find a method that works for me i guess. To be honest id rather do away with the agar, but i know without it i might end up wasting a bunch of jars from contam or trich or something which you can see with the agar. Although tbh i really only did 1/4 of a glad round [bottom was cut into 4] [screw top] each transfer.
i keep throwing out lids because o drill them and they rust

I use the no cook method for my wbs. I've been doing fine with it.

I just did 5qt of WBS. The bitch to me was getting the seed dry after the soak and cook. Still not positive I did a good enough job, but I have growth showing up. I fucked up and did my injections on most of it straight down the middle though so I have little spots of fuzz where it hit and not sure how deep it goes. I've been looking for a source on oats but I don't wanna drive way out to BFE to get to a feed store.

Bum Fuck Egypt. Maybe its just southern vernacular. Scrub em with a pad, I wouldnt concern yourself to much though, they are gonna rust. If they start getting real flaky, buy more. Like 3 bucks for a pack of 12 or something

new2doinstuff said: So what i learned here is... boil the wbs, and the second it boils, strain it? I have a 32 quart PC and i dont have a strainer that can do 15 jars worth of wbs at once- im kind of looking for a different method here. It works so far, my jars are colonizing fine, but there has to be a more efficient way or grain so i dont have to keep dumping and draining
After my rye has boiled for 5-10 minutes I pour into the wire strainer and shake until the steam has stopped evaporating. This is the only time i use the strainer.
To rinse grains, the dump and pour method is actually the most efficient in my opinion. I probably have to fill, swirl and dump 4-5 times.
