Hey guys, im wondering if my agar plate should be thrown out immediately or if there is even a slight chance of it being useful.
firstly this is my first time using an agar dish, secondly im not even sure if the white stuff is mycelium or cobweb mould.
basically im asking if i cut out a piece that has no contam on it can it be used?

It looks like Aspergillus Niger.

I dont see why you should throw it out. Before removing the mold just pressure cook it for 20 minutes and you're fine. Molds die very easily on high temperatures.

Its like $.50 worth of petri and agar so I would throw it out versus trying to work around it. Not to mention if its a plastic dish your cant pressure cook it...

wouldn't PCing it destroy the mycelium and shroom spores too though?
also its a plastic dish so it would melt.

it should kill everything. I think he was saying you could somehow try to reuse it again once its sterile. The problem would be that discoloration would still be there and you might not kill all the mold spores. For the cost/inconvenience trade off I would say 129,999 of the 130,000 shroomery members would say to file it in the round receptacle under the sink.
**to be clear you should throw it in your garbage outside, tape it up before you toss it, or kill the mold off somehow. The filing under the sink was just trying to have fun with my posts**

If it's plastic, just throw it out then. There's no mycelium on this plate. The white thing is actually the mold before sporulating.
