I wonder how inski came up with the name Subsecotioides!

Inski came up with the name subsecotioides because of the species partial sectoid form.

Quote:

inski said:
You guys in San Francisco have P. "cyanofriscosa", I'm calling this interesting species P. "subsecotioides" for it's interesting partial secotioid form.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12481684/fpart/1/vc/1

Psilocybe cyanofriscosa is now Psilocybe allenii, as it has been officially described to science now, (it wasn't when this post was made) inski's post was made in 2010, Psilocybe alleni were officially described to science in 2012, but the Psilocybe "subsecotioides" to Psilocybe "cyanofriscosa" reference that inski made was to explain that "subsecotioides" is a coined name he made up. Inski made up the name for the species, and it caught on.

Before inskil made up the current name Psilocybe subsecotiodes the species were being called rhizomorphs. Check the older season threads for proof.
Here's an example.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/10271902#10271902

No, they were NOT being called rhizomorphs. You need to read that thread and the cross thread fully to understand what was being said. A rhizomorph is not a 'species' of mushroom - rhizomorphs describe a root form.

Rhizomorphic mycelium is said to describe a type of mycelium, yes, I do know that.

However, these posts, and many more in the thread prove that the species were infact being called rhizomorphs as a common name, rhizomorphs were the slang name for the species before inski came up with Psilocybe subsecotioides and the name Psilocybe subsecotioides caught on.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/10322867#10322867
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/10322902#10322902

Even though inski said he titled his post rhizomorphs because the images in the thread were of the rhizomorphs produced by that species. (Scince been deleted by inski) people still took that the wrong way and used rhizomorphs as the species name.

All is clarified

Not in the exact 1 spot, but in the same location not having to walk more than 300Metres away.

That is amazing. I wish I could find atleast one other specie. So another term I hear people (who don't really no Shrooms at all) use is blue meanies, wtf are they?

Also one other question, what other Shrooms could we expect to find in new Zealand besides the aforementioned? I cannot find a viable answer besides old text when searching.

The problem with non-experts is they generally don't know what they're talking about.

Mushrooms are a complex subject. "Blue meanies", "goldcaps", "mushies"; they're all just nonspecific terms that people find easier than learning the differences between species/varieties. Even if one person/group is convinced that "blue meanies" refers to, for example, P. weraroa, a different person/group is going to be using that name for something else.
As with most common names they're so mixed up that you're never going to find any sense in it, so don't bother. If someone thinks they found "heaps of blue meanies in the mulch at the botanic gardens" just politely nod and assume they don't know anything... and it's probably best to leave it that way.

You allways testing my knowledge with good questions mooshiboy

In New Zealand
Goldtops are the official slang for Psilocybe subaeruginosa
and
Blue meanies are the slang for Psilocybe weraroa in Wellington and practically every other active species you can find other than Psilocybe subaeruginosa and/or just a second species to Psilocybe subaeruginosa 'Goldtops' a noob beleves to be called 'Blue meanies'

Incomplete list of all Psilocybin mushrooms in New Zealand

The aforementioned

Genus Psilocybe
- Psilocybe subaeruginosa
- Psilocybe subsecotioides
- Psilocybe weraroa

- Psilocybe makarorae

The rest are

Genus Psilocybe
- Psilocybe aucklandiae
- Psilocybe semilanceata
- Psilocybe strictipes

- Psilocybe alutacea
- Many unknown/unnamed Psilocybe, unknown species.

Genus Gymnopilus
- Gymnopilus luteofolius
- Gymnopilus
(undetermined species, certainly containing psilocybin)

Genus Pluteus
- Pluteus velutinornatus (is likely to be an active species although this fact is not documented)

Genus Panaeolus
- Panaeolus cinctulus
- Panaeolopsis nirimbii

Genus Inocybe
- Inocybe calamistratoides
(also possibly contains psilocybin)

Not to mention the fact that this list is incomplete, I don't forget to mention the rest that don't spring to mind or I just flat out don't know.

Even the potential undiscovered psilocybin mushroom species? Who knows.

Inski is the smartest one for this question and could probably give a complete list.

Also, in America the official slang for Goldtops is Psilocybe cubenisis and the official slang for Blue meanies is Panaeolus cyanescens

Thats confusing as fuck for all the Americans who visit our thread and see Psilocybe subaeruginosa being called Goldtops and Psilocybe weraroa be called Blue meanies

Thats why some people hate slang/common names

Not at all.
I made a post with the title "rhizomorphs" and some kids thought that was the name of that particular mushroom and started calling it that, I had coined the species epithet "subsecotioides" quite a while before that.

Well the name rhizomorphs is being tossed around in the older threads, the use of it is a misinterpretation.

Are you able to make a complete list of active mushrooms that grow in NZ?

I have so far:
Genus Psilocybe
- Psilocybe subaeruginosa
- Psilocybe subsecotioides
- Psilocybe weraroa
- Psilocybe makarorae
- Psilocybe aucklandiae
- Psilocybe semilanceata

I did that because I had no more upload space for more images at that time, the posts were worthless without the images so I deleted them too, now I have unlimited uploads which I didn't have back then.
The majority of my posts are not worth much anyway:shrug:

I'd have to disagree inski, you're somewhat of a mushroom demi-god to the rest of us pesants. Your posts and opinions are worth their weight in gold mate.

Huge blanket of frost today. Minus 4 degrees in sunny hawkes bay. This could possibly mean the end for me. Very happy thus far with my 373grams of caps.

Peace to my mushroom patches till next year,  mush love to all

Psilocybe subsecotioides photographed today, which is a new patch that appears to have evolved from another some distance away.

Discovered last weekend, and I'm stunned that given we have had a couple of severe frosts in between that they haven't gone black..... yet...

Some finds from a little while back...

All populated within a 500m2 patch of native forest. No major variation in phenotypic characteristics however this particular population is considerably less potent than their wood chipped counterparts. Which may suggest something about nutrient availability and uptake that plays a role in determining alkaloid concentrations, this is purely speculation but interesting to think about.
