Trouble fruiting Cambo's
    #2193491 - 12/20/03 09:32 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

I have some Cambo's that are having trouble getting to pin. They were from an older syringe. They took a long time to colonize about 4-5 weeks. I dunked them for 12hours before I fruited them. I cold shocked them by putting Icecubes in the chamber and some ice packs on top of the chamber to drop the temps to around 45-50 deg for a few hours. I have them in a large plastic container with wet perlite for humidity. I recently hooked up an air pump with some air curtains in the wet perlite. The temps have stayed around 70-75. They have been in there for almost 10 days now with NO sign of growth

What could be wrong?
Do these Cambo's need a higher temp to fruit?

Temp shouldn't be an issue for fruting.. You should just be patient for a few more days. make sure your fanning enough and hte humidity is high enough, after a couple days and you still see nothing I recommend you just case them.

Shouldnt having the air pump hooked up to the air curtain be enuf air exchange. Do you think I should still fan them?

Cambo likes a little higher temperature, this was done with controls in 3 locations, the normal temps for fruiting Ps. Cubensis are around 70F and cambos seem to likE it at 78F-83F, they come from a warmer area and the goal is to simulate a natural habitat with indor growth
Myself, P#1 and an additional tester have tested the theory, they will fruit at lower temps but the proscess takes longer, start by raising the temps 1 or 2 degrees per day.

heat is the trick with cambos

This bin of poo got knocked up with some rye berrys 4 days b4 this pic was taken and was kept at 80 degrees.

I threw this bin outside because it had flushed 3 times.
I walked outside and just happened to look over in 2 days of 90 degree weather it fruited a small yeild for a 4th time.

I had a gut feeling that the temps were the problem.

I have been growing some of the local wild shrooms and they fruit nicely at around 73 deg. I will take these cambo's up to aroung 83 deg and see what happens.

I got the temps to around 85 and saw growth within 12 hours.

Thanks for all the help.

If your cambos are fruiting now it?s probably the time that passed, and not the added heat that caused the pinning. Cambos fruit well in the low 70?s for sure-I know for a fact. In fact you probably needed the temp that low to induce fruiting. What I mean is if you did have them in the mid 80?s the whole time, they might not have pinned cause the heat was too high. Some ppl claim that cambos are heat loving strain, and while that may be true to a point, a cubie is a cubie and they all need that reduction in temp as well as added light to induce pinning.

Cambos:

Cambo will fruit at lower temps but I've seen them do alot better at the higher temps, they do quite well regardless. between 78-85 has consistantly produced more and larger fruits and I've never 'shocked' a cubie to induce pinning.

I have never had nor felt the need to cold shock cubies.
@ higher temps I do get larger fruits.

I shocked the cakes before I placed them in the fruiting chamber. I kept the temps around 73 deg for 10 days with NO sign of growth. As soon as I raised the temps they started to get fuzzy near the bottom of the cakes. So Im pretty sure that the temp being in the low 70's was stalling the growth.

now all you have to do is repeat this procedure and you can be positive of the outcome. isnt it nice to know that you'll be aiding in the development of a new tek specificly for cambo if someone is willing to write it

And here they are...

I thought they would come up from the bottom first, but these two are right on top. There is a group near these two trying to pop up.

I may do a Grow log for these Cambos later on down the road.
