Is this Cobweb mold?
    #21933706 - 07/12/15 02:20 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I am starting my first grow and after three weeks my jars look like this, is this the dreaded cobweb mold?

Mycelium, but you shouldn't have opened the cake before it fully colonized...

Also there is a contamination forum which would be a better place to ask.

Now that I look at the second pic I see what you mean. That top is mycelium though. It's those classic finger like structures of aerial mycelium. The side does have a problematic spot as you say though.

something looks really off with myc/bac growing on top of where there should be dry verm.
OP needs to re-check how he makes and preps his cakes! www.mushroomvideos.com is as simple as it gets.

the contam forum sucks nearly no one there knows what the fuck they're talking about aside from kizzle and it's usually pretty dead.

I see no cobweb at all it's fucked though, clearly, and you should start over

Why is it open? It's not fully colonized! If it wasn't contaminated before it is now.

Yeah that creamy barrier doesn't look good- and methinks the Verm layer was wet

Thanks all I appreciate it! I thought it looked a little sketchy,
So if the verm layer gets wet in the PC should I just start over completely?

Yes. Also cover the tops with tinfoil and make sure the water level is below the jars...then the top won't get wet.

we take the foil off after the sterilization cycle so the dry verm barrier dries out. of course it comes out wet after sterilization you're heating up your jars the moisture in the PF jar redistributes and the verm will get a little damp.

Yes. The point of the tinfoil is to keep water from running into the holes while in the pc. *I know you know this Bodhisatta I am just clarifying for the OP*

if the tops come out wet after the PC you don't need to start over, if your jars get too wet because you didn't use foil at all you start over.

The first picture has a shitty oil paint effect on it..... The second picture is healthy mycelium but, your dry verm barrier is wet and the myc grew up into it. Either way, the lid shouldn't be off. Make sure your verm and top of the jar is completely dry or something will grow... Myc or mold.

Where the hell do you people see a contam? That's super rhizo with wet verm falling down the side.
