Any good nootropics I should try? I want improved concentration and memory

I am interested in "Huperzine A", though it sounds like it is a little dangerous, so I'm not sure.
I am going to get Ginkgo Biloba probably.
I'm also looking at "Mind Power Rx".
Any thoughts/opinions on this subject?

Apparently most (if not all) nootropics do not work, and are just pseudoscience.

Where are you getting your information from? I want a credible study.

A credible study to show that nootropics generally don't work?
Isn't that like asking for a credible study on why Zeus doesn't exist?
You should be demanding credible studies for each nootropic suggesting that they do work. Studies that aren't funded by nootropic-selling companies.
Otherwise you're just assuming they work until proven otherwise... seems like a silly assumption to me.

Piracetam has been used for decades in Europe in patients with cognitive decline - the studies are mixed, but some definitely show efficacy.
Personal stories are mixed as well - some people get benefit while others do not. It is thought that if the person has cognitive deficits it will help but if they do not, it will not "boost" their well functioning brain.
I've been taking piracetam since Christmas and have had tremendous benefit from it and find that ALCAR synergizes well with it and Maca (not nootropic) helped boost my energy levels. This "stack" has vastly improved my study habits and has contributed to a feeling of well being, placebo or not.
**I had a severe brain injury as a teenager and then further abused drugs very heavily. Accordingly I believe my brain was in state of deficit.
Reddit has an excellent and very active nootropic sub that I would recommend checking out; /r/nootropics. I plan on researching and using some other racetams (oxi/ani/xxx...), tianeptine (sp) and perhaps a couple herbals (ashwagandha, bacopa monnieri, etc) ....
However, secondorder is right - the science isn't out on these yet and results may be inconsistent between users. Some people are non responders and some substances build tolerance rapidly - care must be taken to avoid interactions/complications. That said - adding piracetam to the daily regime seems safe/easy and effective for many.

I ended up getting men's daily multivitamins and Ginkgo Biloba.
@secondorder, you originally said that "most (if not all) nootropics do not work". I'm curious, what nootropics DO work, assuming that some do work if it's true that "most ... do not work"?

I, too was keen on finding legitimate nootropics, but upon searching for them, I never found any legitimate supporting scientific evidence for any of them.
Here are some quotes you might find useful from people that know more about the subject than I do:
Quote:
"I haven't spent much time trying to separate the hype from the real science here. The one thing that I have heard about, and take with some regularity, not every day but occasionally, is concentrated turmeric, curcumin I think is what it's called, and I take that rather often. And that has been shown to have some protective effect against dementia. But, again, I spend very little time reading about any of this, and have assumed that most of what people take in this area: ginkgo biloba and all the rest, there's either no science behind it, or the science has shown no effect. And when I have looked I've often found that's the case. And then we have these recent stories where you can't even rely on the manufacturers to put the supposedly important agent in the pills. So you're just eating saw dust or some other crap that has been put in gelatin capsules, so these recent reports of testing, what's on show, at GNC and elsewhere, have been pretty alarming, so something like 40% contained none of the ingredients advertised, something on that order, so you can't even know what you're taking, in many cases.
So I tend not to take supplements of any kind. Curcumin aside I sometimes take vitamin D3, but I've been convinced by the research that has shown that for the most part, multivitamin supplementation is a bad idea, it actually seems to raise mortality from a number of causes, for reasons not specified, that suggests that no one is really running low on these vitamins in their diet, and taking them in excess is toxic in some ways. So I'm certainly open as you, I think know, I'm a big booster of science, and I'm waiting for science to deliver all of the things we want to bathe our brains and bodies in, so as to live the best possible lives, but I'm not aware of much in that area that has obvious benefits. I think probably getting enough sleep should be on the short list of good things to do for your brain."
- Sam Harris (PhD in Neuroscience)
And the following From Tim Ferris, who has tried just about every nootropic available, and has concluded that the positive effects from any of these substances are either non-existent, minimal, or they have just as much negative effects as they do positive:

I use noopept. I highly recommend this substance for improved memory as well as recovering lost memories. I notice an improved ability to learn cello faster. Noopept is usually cheap too.

Low dose of ampheamine alternating with methylphenidate, and caffeiene, and days of nothing. Key words, alternating low doses. If you feel amped up its too much.
