Mycena sp. on oak leaves.  The mycelium glows however the mushroom does not. Alonso and I found these by picking every Mycena we saw, bringing them all home and looking for glowing spots in the tackle box once it go dark.

Mycena sp.

Coprinellus sp.

Xylaria sp. on an oak leaf

Amanita sect. Caesareae

Mycena sect. Sacchariferae

Isaria / Cordyceps

Mycena sp. on acorns

Xylaria liquidambaris

Mycena stylobates

The mycelium glows but the mushrooms do not.  One of the most common causes of glowing leaves in this forest.

A lichen that makes yellow fruiting bodies

A few pics from the past few days:

Xylaria grammica group

Xylaria hypoxylon group

Asci 100x, lit from above with a LED flashlight

My girl tells me your good as long as you stay inside after dark. Please, if you could Alan PM me with some advice because im giving serious thought to taking a trip to Veracruz. Thanks and much love. :mushdance:

I walk around in the middle of the night with a backpack full of computers and camera gear all the time and I never had a problem.  Veracruz is very safe compared to some states, but dangerous compared to Queretaro.  It is certainly safer here than where I live in Oakland.

Such cool mushrooms in Mexico.  And your pics rock, as usual.  I don't think I remember ever seeing you use a tripod in the field, at least not in McCloud in the spring.

Is that Xylaria grammica growing from an audio cassette? Was the tape labelled?

You write it and I can proofread it and put my name on it and we split the proceeds.  All of the full size photos can be downloaded from mushroomobserver.org.

I use a tripod in the field for most shots.  It is essential for natural light shots in the dark woods, and for the flash shots I like to use it also because I can adjust the focus and lighting precisely.

This is what I look like in the field:

I loved the resulted change when Alan said I should get reflectors and an umbrella, super important for both really bright and really dark times.
Super cheap ones work really well too, and you dont have to worry about taking them out in the forest.

Thanks Alan!

OK, I tried to PM you but here it is...

Ok, I just might have done that.  And, thank you for making me aware of that.

Other than that...Man, you just ROCK.  Great last name...And you really impress me with the images...the otherworldly taking of my thoughts and breadth.  Man, I look at those images and feel I am in a good scientific exploration...I really lose myself in the beauty.  I guess that is about as I can express without getting maudlin or silly.

You are an Artist.  In every sense.  You live it and breath it.  You probably get enough of that, so I think I might add to that...You are underpaid.

If I don't come home covered in mud and pine sap I start questioning what I did wrong.
