Weed is weed IMO. Unless you're smoking for medicinal purposes and are smoking a specific kind that was made to target a specific ailment.
I imagine people who live in medical or legal states like to try different strains and that the people who work at dispensaries like to recommend stuff.
I don't live in a legal OR a medical state, but a lot of people have connects in those states and they have med-grade weed, and they just tend to mention what strain it is and how much they like it or something, whether I'm buying or just chilling with a friend. Med grade weed is med grade(and in this area, it tends to be headies, or mids, no 'reggie', and no real schwag that I come across, and the majority of people who sell are offering med-grade with the occasional dude selling mids) but preference is preference. I prefer sativas over indicas unless I'm trying to sleep or really wind down, and beyond that point it does get nuanced, but I like trying out different strains, I love the different tastes and smells, and those nuances in general.
It's kind of like trying different types of wine, except the effects can differ between sativa and indica and beyond that to different strains.
You're right though, weed is weed, and I don't hate on anyone who does or does not have any preferences towards what they buy or how much they spend - it's just fun to try what's out there.

I like to try different strains all the time because I have noticed when I swap from one to another that the first 3-4 times getting high on a new strain feels like I have no tolerance. On top of that, being able to taste all the flavors is really fun.

There is literally so much of the finest herb in the Willamette valley Oregon the last year that you can't even give mids away. Nobody even wants to mess with it. If it isn't perfect then it might as well be sent out of the region. I was disgusted at the herbs in Salida Colorado. Everything was grown shitty and everything smelled of chlorophyll. Not a good herb in the entire shop. Steamboat Springs has a great dispensary for quality, but their selection is minimal and extremely expensive. I'm willing to bet that the Willamette Valley Oregon has the best growers in the world and the best strains. Really fancy shit that's grown in certified green no till soil and permacultured soils are starting to become the standard here for quality.

I heard some folks mentioning the lsd strain for a psychedelic high. The "purple OG 18" some very trippy weed. Can cause fear-like paranoia though

I get my stuff from growers that are also into genetics. I enjoy knowing what it is and what lineage of genetics, if only for novelty. I don't like to buy from people that don't know the name or where it comes from. Usually that weed is commercial and inferior to small batch medical. I don't even like CO dispensary bud that much anymore. It sucks compared to the stuff I am getting now.
It's like wine and craft beer really. Some people drink it to get drunk, others enjoy knowing the name and characteristics that make it unique. Growing weed is a science and an art.

They sell the LSD strain through various vendors if your looking for BOG genetics.
I am not too picky anymore and happy with what I have.
Sometimes I'll get some special dank.
Strains that stood out were cherry pie, amnesia haze ( was in Holland ) and a strain call 'loc dog' - something from out west, was a little more $ but really was some of the best dank I ever had.

I've seen LSD a few times here and it doesn't impress me at all. Amnesia Haze didn't impress me either. There are two major phenotypes that came from the haze. I like the one that tastes like heavy rusted iron or blood. The other tastes like your typical jack herer, lambs bread, moby dick etc. It's easier to grow that phenotype and the one I like turns people off a lot because of it's strong taste.

I really like redwood when I got it. I dunno strains are strains. Indica, Sativa, hybrid and how its grown/quality really only matters to me.

I rarely smoke these days, and it's been that way for years. The one strain that I've smoked in the past 2-3 years or so that really stands out is jillybean. Love the smell/flavor; and the high is sublime....no anxiety with it at all.
