Agar storage issue
    #21929327 - 07/11/15 03:33 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

So I stopped for a month and put my plates into the fridge planned with this break. I also put my jars in the fridge too.

Jars were fine...

A lot of my plates developed bacteria contamination. Most of these plates were plates witch had pools of water form in them. Should I be adding my agar into the agar mix if I plan on storing in a fridge?

seal the edge of plates with parafilm or saran wrap(cut the big tube into 1 inch tubes and use like parafilm) then put the dishes in a plastic bag. usually a quart or gallon ziploc bag. then put those bags into a insulated lunch box. then put the insulated lunch box into your fridge. try to buy a mini fridge or something, the problem with your kitchen fridge is that it gets opened and closed all the time. you want to try to store them at a very steady temperature with little fluctuation.

I got some spare launch boxes ill use and I use glad press'n seal. I still have parafilm but if I'm not careful I notice I get microholes. Parafilm is not the cheapest but this glad does the work for the most part.

Sounds like a good idea overall will the pooling water from the temperature drop still be an issue though?

If you use 15-20g/L agar it shouldn't be a problem. Sure you'll get a bit of condensation but it shouldn't hurt anything. The more you insulate it the better for condensation and all that though
