How do you like to Grow Reishis Inside? Why? What is most productive?
I think it is too hot and variable to grow them outdoors where I am living.

where about do you live and which species do you want to grow?
they do well in monotubs and fruited from bottle substrates.

I live in the midwest, NE Oklahoma, I believe it is zone 7a.
Well, I was thinking Ganoderma lucidum, or tsugae, or whatever spores/myc I can get from a reputable supplier. I don't have a flow hood yet so I can't really produce anything worth trading.
I am excited that you suggest monotubs because this is where I have the most experience and knowledge. I have read a lot about greenhouses but I've never tried running one yet.
I am in no giant hurry and would be willing to wait a few weeks or a couple months if you think I could do outdoor reishis with greater success.
It doesn't seem like a great commercial endeavor considering it can be bought for 2 ounces/$4 on the net but at least I could try the health benefits for myself and maybe a couple family members. And, I could know the quality, age, and try a few different methods of ingestion.

Come to think of it, I might try more than one Ganoderma if I can buy the spores or myc. As I'm sure you know, the expense of a few monos is not so great over just one if you have all the other equipment.
I might look at other therapeutic species as well but reishi seems to have a reputation as being the most potent medicinal one.

scroll down to the reishi grow.
if you buy a ganoderma culture from a vendor it's going to come as a LC(mycelium) most edible or medicinal won't come as spores.
outdoor should work fine you might need to make a humidity tent but probably not most of the year from spring to fall your reishi will probably do fine in a shaded spot, depending on how you set it up you might not even have to do any maintenance,
reishi does great indoors at any temperature that you're comfortable in.

that's my thread on a reishi(ganoderma resinaceium) found in WI. I could send you a culture of that too but most people think of lucidium when they say reishi.

No spores to protect their work, or are they harder to grow from spores than say, cubbies?
Interesting to hear you think it would do good here outdoors. I'll have to think about a location. My aunt's brat won't leave anything alone. I might have to do indoors just so I can protect it. She picked all my grandmothers tomatoes the other day--small and green!
Thanks for the offer of the culture! So, it is medicinal like the others? I am still saving up for equipment though so it might be a while. I am thinking about an AA 941 and eventually I want a flow hood. Are you a big believer in the medicinal benefits? Do you self medicate with reishis or other species?

I just think they look cool.
you can make a still air box and buy a thrift store pressure cooker to get started, my pressure cooker cost 20 dollars, my still air box was 10.
Still air box.
another one
you can get creative and fancy
the reason Cubes and other actives come as spores is because mycelium is illegal to send and cultivate. if it were legal they would sell LC just like they do for edibles and medicinals. you would actually get a strain that is known to perform well and have great potency rather than a variety that's mostly hype.
a strain is the product of two viable spores mating with each other successfully. when you grow from spores you have 100s of strains in a single grow, some mushrooms themselves have multiples strains active. you can have an event called anastomosis and see chimeric fruits for example.
so edibles come as a single isolated strain that's known to be awesome. with active mushrooms you have to do your own strain isolation, since the variety is just a name a vendor puts on a syringe. the spores have 0 clue they even have a name or that other spores of the same species are different from them. the varieties are just linage, the spores are all of equal potential for an awesome grow it's the grower that determines the performance.
with a edible culture you get the LC you're going to do well as long as you don't fuck up the colonization or fruiting and give them accurate conditions.

Antlers look very cool! Does it fruit faster than lucidum or tsugae? I've read where they have required 4+ months for some people.
Have you ever cased them or tried bubble wrap/wax paper? Some people seem to have minimal pin sets and they seem to go nuts for other people--much like cubbies.
