LMEA Agar left in flask too long....

Yesterday I made a mistake. I made up some LMEA Agar and let it sit in the sterilizer until it was room temperature. It was and is in front of my running flow hood. But now it is solidified and I need to know what to do. I'm sure it's still usable, but what is the best way to bring it backing to a pouring consistency???
Thanks.

I was thinking that maybe heating some water on the stove and suspending the glass flasks in the water to melt it...
Viable?

Thought about doing that too but I didn't know if it would be a mistake. Thank you. I just microwave until it has returned to a liquid state and proceed to pour in from of the flow hood as normal?

This belongs in mushroom cultivation or gourmet and medicinals. Gotta read the forum rules before posting.

Yes it will be viable if you remelt it. It sometimes effects the consistency of the agar but you should be fine.
Some people premix large amounts, and freeze it. Then when they need some they simply break off a piece, melt it, add their nutrient solution, and pour.
Just melt it down, keep an eye on it so it doesnt boil-over, a light simmer is ok but you dont want to make a mess.

Okay, so my microwave is too small for a 1000ml flask. What about heating it on my ceramic glass top electric stove in my kitchen? The pyrex should be fine, right. Yikes!!

It should be but a water bath wouldnt hurt. Just heat slowly at first.

Tried a water bath. Im far too impatient for that. I tried for over an hour and it made little to no difference. The heating on the stove is going pretty good so far. Ill let you know the outcome.

Update: Using the stove has proved successful. I used low and it took around 35 minutes or so. Both flasks went from completely solid to completely liquid. Now i will start cooling and start pouring once it gets to around 110 degrees. Sound good?

Poured. Hardened and ready to go. Color and consistency are all the same as before the re-liquidification. ??? Anyway. All seems well and the dishes are in front of the flow hood awaiting my further command.

Yeah I have molten and poured from the same bottle of media a half dozen times without trouble. As long as you can keep the lip sterile and dont mind a bit of sugar caramelization over time, its all fine. Hope your project turns out well
