CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME AN OPINION ON MY TUB (PICS)?

Hi everyone,
I have encountered a problem that I have not encountered in a long time and I am not 100% sure what to do. I made a tub 10 days ago, waited those 10 days, and today, on day #10, I open it to find this:

Basically, my thinking is this: worst case scenario - it is contaminated and will show soon enough, and best case scenario - the not-colonized parts are actually just dried out parts of coir
i also want to give a frame of reference. this is a tub that i made 7/9/15 with the same south american spawn (and quantity):

sorry for the picture but i had to take it through the lid. as you may or may not be able to see, the latter tub is very far along, especially compared to the other.
i had periodically looked through the lid of the first tub to see how it was going and starting a few days ago, it didn't seem to be moving along at all.
any suggestions? thanks in advance!

Did you mix your spawn and coir really well? That might explain the exposed coir. It looks likes it still needs more time to colonize the coir is all.
Also, what type of light are you using? I see little pins in some of those pics.
I'm a noob, but I just think it needs more time to colonize.

Yeah that yellow stuff just looks like metabolites to me. It probably just needs time is my guess.

actually, what i think you see are bits of verm, not pins. it wasn't exposed to any light. i am pretty sure i mixed it well, but maybe some of it i did not mix very well. thank you for giving your opinion

FYI, the main cause of premature pinning is exposure to fresh air, or contamination. Light, not so much.

this i did not know.

the tub smells perfectly very fine, very fresh, no strong odor in general, only the materials used (grain, coir)

looks like moisture droplets to me. i don't see any off color metabolites. but im getting old and my eye sight isn't what it used to be.
let it finish colonizing. is 10 days your normal substrate colonization speed? if not then something is probably off.
i know my bulk subs colonize in roughly 3-5 days average(5 quarts spawn/10 quarts sub). anything longer usually has me suspect.
ah i relooked again. i saw one top left of one of the pictures. could be bacteria.

Yes, this makes sense. Usually it doesn't take any longer than a week to colonize so your hypothesis is likely correct. This is the information I am looking for. Thanks very much.

Upon further investigation, I have another theory: is it possible the coir/spawn was packed in too tight?
What are the consequences of squishing the coir/spawn too tight?
