Car question - "Hesitation" on the Acceleration
    #21927832 - 07/11/15 08:11 AM (8 years, 11 months ago)

So i have this car issue.

When im at a red light, then i gently hit the gas, my car "hesitates" by stuttering off the line, and then it finaally starts accelerating smoothly.

What causes this? A weak battery? Dirty spark plugs? Dirty fuel injectors? My automatic transmission by chance?

motormount that is 90 degrees off of the powertrain...

so if its a front wheel drive its a front or back motormount

if its rear wheel drive its left or right

but thats just going by your description...and it could also be a few other things, but thats my bet

Sounds like an Automobile Ignition System issue. The most common issues are;
- Bad spark plug
- Ignition cap and rotor
- Coil
- Spark plug wires

Depends on the car, it could also be but less likely;
- TPS sensor issue
- MAF sensor issue
- Vaccum leak

Incorrect timing.
Bad/dirty MAF sensor.
Clogged fuel filter.
Bad fuel.
Bad fuel pressure regulator.
Failing fuel pump.
Vacuum leak.
Worn injectors.

everything above mentioned is a possibility.

the reason i hit on the motor mount thing is the hesitation off the line...

when a motor mount goes thats 90 degrees off the drive train, when you press the accelerator the motor twists a bit before power is applied to the transmission causing a hesitation just like you described.

you can diagnose it by having someone hold their foot on the brake and give it a little gas, you can watch the motor move. sometimes even does it in park. the motor shouldnt move at all if the motor mounts are good.

Interesting theory on the motormount.

I dont think it is, buti do have a rattling  under the car. I think its the muffler piping.

Well, looks like it could be the fuel system, firing system or a loose motormount (??). Hmmmm

Do your spark plugs first. They're cheap and do-it-yourself.

also any cels? hook us up with as much info as you possibly can, so we can act like we are car savvy.

30 bucks and 20 minutes of your time seems to be easier and cheaper than taking it in to get looked at. It's probably many things. Sounds like a clunker.

Don't get me wrong, me too, I've got my beater farm truck (500 bucks), an old Cadillac that's rusted and busted to shit (free), and a new car (no payments though).

If it gets you to Point A and Point B, rock on. I'd rather use my beater truck when there's 4 feet of snow on the ground and get 12mpg, but if I have to drive 90 miles I'm taking the 35mpg car.

Someone here put new cars and mortgages and debt in perspective.. he or she said, "Even homeless people have more money than you because they're not 40k in debt and drowning in student loans".

I would start here. In the past I have had what you describe and I changed the spark plugs and wires. It fixed the problem. And, it's cheap.

I do it and I'm pretty accurate

I do ask questions such as the make and model and how it feels/sounds/acts

I dont assume it a motormount

pris, exceptions to every rule man, you have proven on this board you know how to swing a wrench.

shes a professional student. 31 and still in college from 19.. she has taken classes to being a doctor to being a pharm rep.

i also dont believe its a motor mount either.

I usually clock myself in the head with it though

that was my real guess but typically liberal arts majors have to repeat college
several times before they figure out their degrees are worthless in the job market

while she's crying about that debt, remind her that it's her fault and give it a chuckle

checking the motormount takes less time than anything else to diagnose.

it may not be it, because my interpretation of your description may be off.

after that i would change the air filter, plugs, wires, cap button, and put in fuel injector cleaner.
