adding a layer of wild bird seed after second flush.

So this is my first grow, I am doing 2 techniques for my first attempt. I walked into the Vancouver Seed Bank and bought some spore syringes and one mushroom grow kit. I started the kit and a wild bird seed technique at the same time. The wild bird seed started colonizing WAY faster than whatever was in the jars from the grow kit (not much info provided). The bird seed Tek is now just finishing its second huge flush and the jars from the provided kit are just starting to finish colonizing.(I don't suggest buying the kit from the Vancouver Seed Bank... The Spore Syringes however are top notch!!! I highly recommend these!)
So back to my original idea. I have done a lot of research on this whole mycology hobby and I have an idea that i have not come across.
Long story short I started a grow with jars of wild bird seed mixed with a bit of vermiculite. Once colonized I mixed the jars 50/50 with Vermiculite and let colonize. Then I cased with a 1/4 inch (my substrate was 1 3/4 inch deep) of vermiculite and put into fruiting conditions right away with premium fluorescent grow lights (6500 range) and great all around conditions. After my second HUGE flush I sterilized some wild bird seed with a bit of vermiculite and added 2 inches to my freshly harvested substrate.
My idea is to try and colonize it and then start the pinning process all over again. NO CLUE if this will work!! but i felt like experimenting since I've had such good luck so far! Has anyone tried doing this or anything similar??
I love this site, I learned everything I know so far from here.

I used B+ for the wild bird seed technique and Golden Teacher with the Vancouver Seed Bank grow kit.

Problem: Your already exposed substrate is far too dirty for that. It would be even if only after about 30 seconds in open air. Definitely after all that time. The fact that mycelium has colonized it and is living in it is what protects it. Keep in mind we always transfer to grain in a glove box or in front of a hood. This is because, unlike other substrates which can be handled in open air, grain is highly nutritious and therefore grows mold readily.
If you want to use mycelium thats already been exposed as a spawn source, then choose a low nutrient substrate like coir, compost, or even manure with a raised ph. Otherwise, what you'll be running on that grain will surely be mold & bacteria.

Haha, as I sit and think about what I have done I realize I have probably just provided a perfect breeding ground for unwanted bacteria. Oh well, I have achieved what I wanted and I am learning a lot so no loss!! I will fill you all in with what happens to my bacteria playground, lol.

I'm sure those grains that you 'cased' over your original casing layer of vermiculite are going to mold pretty quickly. If you do get a second flush of mushrooms it will probably be from the original substrate pushing through that top layer of contaminated grain. Heres to hoping though! Post up what happened.

Thank You for your reply Oeric, I figured this was the case but thought I would try it anyways. I have read that colonized mycelium is very strong and withstands contamination so I figured maybe it could work. but probably not. On a second note though, How awesome is it that here in Canada a person can walk into a store and buy magic mushroom spores! got to love that!

Moist grain exposed to open air for about 2 seconds is a mold situation...
On that note, if you ever do get a moldy jar or tub, just toss it and dont open it in your house. If you do, you'll be seeing a lot more of that mold and you'll have a hard time!
Youre right that a mycelial colony will withstand contams but your fresh grain is not a myc colony
