I hate to be the one to bring this up, but I have some serious issues - as should the rest of us, BTW - with "rescuing" plants from other people's lots. Just saying.

In this instance, I think he did the right thing. That plant was not taken care of at all. Rescuing the genetics is important.

After speaking with the owners twice now the second time I spoke with 3 Spanish women told me the cacti was left there and it was well on it's path to dying.

In my eyes I did the right thing, it can easily be 100 degrees over here so maintaining a plant is definitely not leaving unattended.

I think you did the right thing. That plant REALLY needed some help.

It makes it better that you did speak with the owners but even if you couldn't find them I would have done the same to be honest.

Now if it was a healthy looking plant on someone's property "that's a no no" but this thing was truly dying and all it needed was for someone to show it a lil attention.

Now if I had to take it without permission to make myself feel better I would have taken it home and brought it back to health the best way I could and took a cutting of the healthy plant to replant on that lot in an area where it would possibly have a better chance of surviving.

That's just my opinion though.
