Wow a true death cap. Amanita phalloides but for the love of god throw that out its highly poisonous. A rule of thumb never pick a single mushrooms under a tree (especially pine) I just hope to god you didn't eat that. Its one of the most poisonous mushrooms in america. Amanita phalloides

That species is responsible for most fatal poisonings in the world. Its a bad mushroom I really hope you didn't eat it. If you did get to a hospital you will not be sick for 3 days but it will kill you if not properly treated. Even then the odds of not having severe liver damage are slim to none.

Hi thewanderer25.  I very much appreciate your response.  I did not eat it.  I don't eat anything without multiple assurances.  I thought it might be a destroying angel but figured the cap wasn't white enough.  Sounds like I wasn't far off in terms of the need to stay away!  Have a good weekend.

just curious.  where did you hear that one?  that would eliminate a very large number of species one might have interest in.

Well the pine makes the soil acidic and Amanita love it thats where I find them. Sorry it may be different in other places but I always find my Amanita species near pine needles and there's always just one single one. The psychedelic ones I find on poop or in my neighbor's grass the only exception is gynoplus which grows in multiples. But that's just for me it may be different where you live but i've never seen an Amanita grow anywhere but under a tree with just one mushroom.
