I just cant understand why so many people just dont fully appreciate it
They just don't get it! AKIRA is the most psychedelic anime of all time. It's got action, spirituality, adventure, personal growth and general profound trippiness.
If you like fan creations, you can download a AKIRA anime video clip to the song "Enough" by Gravity Kills on this site. It's almost 72 MB but they can deal it out at 100s of kB/s if you can take it that fast. Alas it only gives an impression of the action side of the movie, so you trippy folks don't think its all action, AKIRA is FAR more then that!

not long ago i saw some anime, a film or episode, i can't remember the length. the basic premise is something like :
a stream of audio/visual information enters the mainstream of human media on earth (internet or tv, i don't recall). this stream is elusive in its origin, and features a being or character who claims to the viewers to be a disembodied mind/soul who has sort of "transcended" the toils of physical life to reside in digital realms by releasing himself/spirit into basically a large computer system somewhere. He sort of advocates this as a liberation. In the video, this man, who looks a bit like the elusive billionaire behind the events in the movie Contact, is sitting centrally, suspended and cross-legged in holographic space. fields of shimmery fractal geometry were continuously unfolding behind him at some distance. This whole transmission had a very techno-buddhist psychedelic aesthetic about it. As the story continues, suicides (or maybe attempts at digital transcendence) ensue as people are inspired/influenced. A select few (protagonists i guess) mobilize to locate the residence of this being, or the source of the information, the mainframe computer. and so on...
So, I can't remember at all the name of this. I really wanna find it! If only to watch the transmission from the digital being in the beginning of this anime. It is very psychedelic.
does anyone think they have seen this?

Akira is such a bad trip movie imo, completely dreary, and nightmarish in many scenes. Patlabor 2 was pretty relaxing, Excel Saga is great while tripping, Vampire Hunter D is also awesome. AMV's like wiccan linked too are the absolute coolest thing while tripping. They combine customized and trippy animation with a great song
