Would he or wouldn't he?
That was the question many were asking as Pope Francis headed to South America on a three-nation tour.
It turns out he did.
The pontiff, 78, tried coca leaf tea on a flight between Ecuador and Bolivia on Wednesday, CBS News reports.
Coca leaves are the main ingredient in cocaine, but tea made from the leaves is a regional remedy for altitude sickness. Locals are also known to chew the leaves of the plant, which they consider to be sacred.
The pope was en route to La Paz, Bolivia, where the airport is the highest in the world, at 13,000 feet above sea level.
"He asked me for 'trimate,' which is really common also in [the pope's home country of] Argentina," the flight attendant on the Boliviana de Aviacion flight said. Trimate is made from coca leaves, chamomile and anise.
The Vatican said that the pope, who lost part of a lung as a teenager, would spend no more than four hours in La Paz to minimize negative effects from the high altitude.
The pope will also be visiting Paraguay, where he will hold his first public meeting with a married gay activist.

WWJD? Don't turn into a shaman, pope! To me this is a mildly interesting story. I believe someone like the pope has already lost his mind trying to become the "most powerful" person who spews sh*t about religion, God, Jesus and whatnot.
I just see religion as a huge money maker and creator of hate, death, war, intolerance and an excuse for neurotic persons.
But hey if you want to be religious, go ahead. Just don't seriously interrupt my life.
P.S: trying coca leaves doesn't equal loosing your mind, it just may cause the sheep to loose theirs.
