I just poured a sleeve of antibiotic plates to start some wild prints, and didn't use them all. The remaining 5 are going with me to Kentucky where I hope to take some wild clones. My friend tells me a ton of great edibles grow out there and we're going hunting the day after I get there.
I've been waiting for more stuff to start pinning on agar. Now I've had cambo, GT, and ape do it.

This is actually the second pin that plate put out, but I didn't have plates ready for the first one and it shriveled up. I'm stoked I got a second chance.

Cheers man! I've got to get some sleep too. Have to be up at 6 and work a full shift, then going to see widespread panic with a head full of these chocolates I just finished.

Guess I should follow along as well.
It seems like every plate I haven't refrigerated, is pinning.

bunch of knots ! looks like it will be a nice "pinset".
I'll put something from this plate on fresh agar and keep you guys company.

Do you think this guy is stronger than your average mushroom considering how much mold is on the plate? Imma find out. Tis going on agar tomorrow.

If there's nothing to compare it to it could just as easily be weaker than average mold.
I don't suppose those are reusable petris. If they are you can resterilize to kill the mold and mycelium and reinoculate it with a few different strains and see which does better. Even though the mold itself would be dead the metabolites it produced while competing with the mushroom mycelium would still present in the agar.

You should put some of that mushroom on a new plate, and take a print from it as well. Join our little GT pin clone grow along lol.
It's all the same GT too, since I got mine from azur and you got that plate from me

I asked a similar question 2 years ago and TL said it would not be any more contam resistant than normal.

And I bet they based that assumption on diddly squat.
Check this out. You can see resistance to the mold develop simply from exposure to the enzymes. It doesn't prove anything but it shows it's at least a credible possibility. http://www.mycologia.org/content/95/2/191.full

Idk man... fruiting on agar is not too uncommon. The presence of mold is also coinciding with the end of a life cycle which is a last minute push to fruit. Basically, I dont think theres probably much special about the pin other than that it was the mycs last ditch dying effort. Same as a contammed cake or any other similar scenario

That pin is going to have more buffed up genetics than any other section of mycelium in that plate. It should be a fast colonizer And thick fruiter I think. If not a bunch of sparce thing fruit canopies, then rather fewer bulky as fuck and big mushrooms. Only one way to tell. As for contam resistance, that section of mycelium was able to produce the proper metabolites to defend against bacteria or whatever, so yeah I believe it will be less likely to be taken over by bacteria that is present in all off our grows just because it's in its genetics to know to fight it and how.

Just because theres a pin doesnt mean the mold didnt kick the mycs ass.. which it did. If it ate the mold or something I'd say it might be worth that idea. Like I said, this is common. It ran with the mold and lost. Kicked out a pin before it died.
