Last week I ran 2 media bottles of MEA and GWA. I totally forgot to loosen the caps after screwing them on tight and swirling the powdered ingredients into the hot water. The bottles and caps had no issues surviving a 25 min 20psi run this way. If you do this though, loosen the caps slowly in front of your hood. The agar will be bubbling under vacuum a little and they will suck in air to equalize the pressure and boil up a bit, so loosen and tighten until the agar settles and repeat until it doesn't bubble up anymore. Oddly the MEA took about 5-6 loosen and tightening of the cap to equalize while the GWA was equalized in 2 tries. Dunno if that means anything at all.

Some agar media is more foamy than others. Lin's media foams over like fucking mad. Everything cubes grow on is pretty tame.

I've made the switch. Thanks for helping Bodhi. I simply didn't have the confidence before, but anyone can do this.

I'll get a proper media bottle later.

When you sterilize (sanitize?) pyrex plates in foil in the oven, how long and at what temp?

Thanks Bodhi, great link. I have a stack of pyrex petri's wrapped in foil in my AA, now cool enough to access. I hear you saying they will be wet - I didn't think about wrapping towel inside there. I will dry them out in the oven with this method before opening the foil.

That, plus free's up PC space for more bottles of agar Definitely implementing this tek, especially in winter when nice to have oven on. The "roll" of plates fit perfectly in a bread pan . Cooled them a bit and slid into a Ziploc. Pouring them soon

I dig the bit about putting a drip on the loop. I used to make minor floods. Nice links.

Stopping by to say thanks for this awesome resource! It really helped me get started with agar.
Now look at the mess I've gotten myself into...
