Could I reheat agar in a toaster oven or oven? I know this sounds kind of stupid but I don't have a microwave

Hi Bodhi,

I finally received a new pressure gauge. I bought the sterilizer gauge that Juiceh recommended. I sterilized my agar for 30 minutes at 15 PSI with the lid to the pyrex media bottle slightly loose.

I sterilized Q-tips for 30 mins at 15 PSI for the initial transfer of spores to agar because my print was on paper. This is how my plates look after the second transfer.

I will do additional transfers soon.
The bottom right hand plate was my first transfer from spore print. All of my first plates had tomentose growth. By the second transfer rhyzomorphic mycelium was visible.
Thanks for posting your Pour Agar Tek and sharing the pyrex media vessel that you use. I really like the bottle.

I haven't poured plates in forever, been playing with my pasty plates and working out how to avoid buying my next shipment of petris all together.
Definitely doable but I prefer the ease in wedges versus cutting a plate. I noticed a slight increase in bacteria (As I will unveil later today or early tomorrow) while dropping pasty plates into LIs. I just did one from a wedge of ESS and Oakridge and both are colonized beautifully. My TMF has bacteria which was a pasty plate. Ran that experiment a few more times.
In short, I'll be pouring soon
How'd you find those exact temperatures or did you just ball park based on previous research?

pouring agar at 47 is in a lot of lab SOPs for agar work. for that very reason that it's just about as cool as you can go before it turns into gel which means you'll get the least amount of condensation.
pour a stack of dishes with an oven glove on and the agar at 140F or something and it will look like rain inside of your petris

it's about 117F so pretty warm to the hand, that's the other benefit is you don't have to wear a glove to pour because it wont burn

I've been toying with BRF agar lately but it's still too nutritious for these plates. should have used food coloring too it's really hard to see. the golden halo plate is grown to the edge but you can't really tell in the picture. envyss refuses to go tomentose on all of the BRF plates.

That ESS looks aggressive!
Yeah I was gonna ask if you food color any of your plates 'cause I'm blind as a bat, if it's not white on black I'm fucked
Why do you say too nutritious? I don't mind tomentose or slower growth, maybe it's personal preference.
