Re: How did u get into clubbing/raving? [Re: desant]

I met two Polish chicks that were into raves. So me and a friend joined them to an illegal rave in an old asian restaurant. A tower that rotated 360 degrees every hour. The crowd was terrible though. Only 40 year olds on far too many drugs. Our inexperienced teenage selves were a bit intimidated. We left.

The restaurant was on an industrial park. No traffic anywhere, let alone public transport. But then, as a Godsent, we spot a local bus that is "out of service" speeding along a couple of streets further along. We run as fast as we can to cut up to it and jump in front of it waving our arms...

The bus stops and we ask if there is any public transport left into the city. The driver said no but asks us where we are headed. We explain what happened and he offers to drive us to Club 11 (famous club on the 11th floor of an old post office next to Amsterdam central station, now replaced by a brand new conservatory)..!

We get in and the XTC we took earlier starts to hit us. The girls get very chatty with the bus driver and my buddy and I are just chilling in this private ride on the empty public bus. We ask the driver if we are allowed to smoke in the bus and he lets us

We spend the entire come up inside of the bus and get dropped pretty much right in front of the Club. We casually get out and get in line for my first real club experience. It turned out to be the first dubstep night of this Club. A very progressive night as dubstep had not really left the UK yet.

We were in the elevator up to the 11th floor and the guy in the elevator starts to talk about the dubstep and how terrible he thinks it is.

The girls get out of the elevator, look at eachother and say: "whoooooo we can dance to this!".

We partied like there was no tomorrow.

How i got to know about Club 11 is this:  i was wondering around Amsterdam during the day and i see a guy who is obviosly a clubber. I have a map of Amsterdam in my pocket i stop him and ask wheres the best place to go party he selected a bunch of venues all over the city .... me and my mates decided to try club 11.... EPIC.. it was amazing as we were walking by coming up on E and we see these disco lights flashing from the roof top of the building!!!!

We get there and everythings amazing.... one of the things i enjoyed is the view from 11th floor u can see whole of Amsterdam!! :awebig:

raves arent about music. its about drugs

In Australia, 'rave' was only really used to describe a big event. Multiple stages and whatnot, a lot of the times they were outdoor. But the word 'rave' was more used by people that weren't into the scene, kind of like a cliché word your mum would use. I didn't really like 'raves', I liked clubs. It was about drugs man. No doubt about that. But it was also about the people, the atmosphere and the music.

Hey Artnotwar

Did u ever dress up for nights out??

In Gatecrasher most people designed their own clothe which shows how dedicated we were

I usually wore yellow UV pants and yellow UV tank top with Gatecrasher logo on my back in blue. THEN we spiked our hair... now this is a bitch to explaine, spiked hair... wtf is that?  Long ugly spikes at random on your head ? NO NO NO it was fucking stylish... very accurate smallish spiked hair in tidy rows with UV paint on the tips, fucking EPIC i tell u, really Beautiful to behold. That was trance. For hard house, we had different outfit... i spent like a month making mine:  Purple furry boots, purple and white furry skirt and a short tank top, i looked dope, fucking amazing outfit, when ppl saw me they just wanted to take pictures :awesome:

I used to wear 'Phat Pants' which was about as far as most people from Melbourne would go. From the documentaries I saw, oner in the UK people used to get right into dressing up. I remember watching a Tidy documentary. It was something like 'Tidy Weekend' or something. The one thing I realised when watching that is how much different it would have been with so much coke around. It's pretty rare to come across coke in Australia, and when you do, it's fucking shit.

When I was staying in Leeds, I was fucking shocked when everyone was just out in the alleyways behind the club doing coke. Crazy.

Where are you based now desant?

Which direction from Melbourne?

I hear Hard Kandy and PHD are still putting on the odd night. I also heard rumours that Bubble is opening back up or has already re-opened. Pharmacy has something on next weekend. If you can't find any of that on google let me know.

I'm not really into the scene any more though TBH. These days I'd much rather go to a doof and listen to Psychedelic music.

Haha yeah man, I wanted that logo on my phat pants so bad. The tidy boys used to come to Melbourne quite a bit and play at Hard Kandy.

I'd rather a doof any day, too cold now though. East of Melbourne bro. Thanks for the suggestions, I lived in Melbourne for 3 years, had a few good club experiences but usually just got dragged to average 'clean' clubs filled with plastic people.

When I was 15 in September 1996 I was into dance music (had been for years), but had never been to a "rave" or a REAL club night due to being a young kid in rural Pennsylvania.  But I had some older friends who drove, and they were going to a sizable rave thrown by a production company out of Philly, invited me along with.  I told my parents I was sleeping over at a friend's house and went to the party, was immediately hooked.

Funny thing, I had to come clean to my parents about going immediately.  Before I even got into the event, I bumped into a family friend in the parking lot, a retired cop working security.  If figured there was a chance he wouldn't mention seeing me to them, but later in the night I saw my gf's mom, who was an EMT on standby (standard protocol for a party of some 3000 people- 2 kids still ended up dying that night).  So I had to tell them I went to the rave, but they were cool about it.  When I got my driver's license the following summer I started going out fairly regularly.  By the time I was 17, I was going to raves like every weekend.
