Habitat: well maintained grass. Soccer field that gets irrigated.
Gills: Dusty Grey to Black, do not extend beyond edge of cap.
Cap: less than 1/2" cracking on some noted
Bruising: N/A
Print: Black

Brown gilled specimens from same location similar size.

After printing it appeared that one of these brown gilled guys printed black I wasn't careful enough to be 100% about that one though.

Hi! I'd say that the black spored specimens could be Panaeolus cinctulus or some other possibly active Panaeolus. Wait for confirmation from trusted identifier.

edit: I think I'm also seeing some bruising on the stipes in the picture you're holding them in your hand. Panaeolus cinctulus rarely bruises blue though.

That is kinda what I was thinking. Been looking there for 2 years. Haha I told saralove that I would find them now that I got a print from her.

I didn't mention that bruising as I wasn't sure if I was seeing that right irl.

So we are going with Pan. Cinctulus then?

Another patch same place but bigger. Not picking all the fruit just trying to get enough for a cup or two. Already tossed out the obvious foes before printing.
The one on the foil is another Pan. Bispore out of my glass terrarium.
The biggest dark print you see, as that cap dried out after picking it showed these awesome light grey and brown bands. But it's gills were super light it was very immature but I knew it wouldn't be there today..

Sorry for the mess but here are the brown shits. They seem to get much bigger and be more uniformly caramel almost until drying. Then they have much more obvious banding than the black spored sp. A lack of food? The fields get mulched when mowed but only chem ferts if any I'm assuming

Thanks for the pics germish, Im still learning, I keep finding foes.  I see the difference
in the spore prints.

Yeah the black print is very obvious. The macroscopic differences definitely vary from area to area as well as by local environment and substrate. So relying on what ppl say they look for isn't always the best. I've been looking at the biggest ones but in the end I probably walked by hundreds of them because they are smaller and lighter where I am.

So I'm going out again today to try and get pictures before picking. You see them about 2 hours after I pick them they look much different. I'm curious what are the odds these are panaeolus olivaceous? And are chemical fertilizers/herbicides a real danger if I want to tea these guys up?

Soccer field panaeolus [Re: germish]

I only say something about the olivaceous because I've picked maybe 6 taller lighter colored more bell shaped caps that show possible bruising (see op) as opposed to the other black spored sp. I'm fairly confident is the cinctulus. All the fruits come from the same square yard of grass.

Even the brown gilled specimens in this photo printed out jet black. All cinctulus.

Your very lucky, I keep finding foes that print brown.  I think foes don't grow as big, from
what I've seen in the pics here, haven't found a cinctulus yet.

The fertilizers may not be much of a problem, herbicides probably are a problem.
Not sure if shrooms will grow in grass with a lot of herbicide.

I just found this guy a couple hours ago, good size, be nice if its active

I see a lot of flowering clovers and maybe some dandelions in your 1 pic, so there is probably not much herbicide or weed and feed being used.

In your second set of spore prints, you have a few of the "jet black" prints that many look for when trying to distinguish subbs from their Pan relatives. That's not definitive, but it's a good sign. I would guess that you have a variety of species here, most Pans with a few possible subbs. I'm nothing close to an expert though, wait until a trusted identifier can give you more info.

Well I've picked ten times this many in the last year or two in the same place and have only this year printed anything that might look a solid black color of any kind that I'm positive on. I read somewhere on the pages of this forum that no black spored mushroom is toxic so even if they are an inactive pan/active pan mix the odds that I will feel anything with my fairly low tolerance is pretty good. I've got 2 grams cracker dry, pretty sure that should give me a nice fry. I'll take some pics B4 I make tea this next week or so and see if any of the bluing? is really there.
Also like I said I don't think they are anywhere near the same physically visually (macroscopically) area to area substrate to substrate just like with any living organism they are different from one microclimate to the next even adjacent counties or two blocks down. My brown printers are much larger in cap diameter, stem girth and length, darker brown all through out, and definitely smell different.. I have a good nose though. They might also not be Pan. Foensecii I know there are a few common inactive black and brown printing Panaeolus I have had id'd here as well. Most of the inactive black printers seem to prefer to fruit directly off the manure as far as I have noticed here. But again that is presuming that all of my black spored species in the photos within this thread are all active.

Subb in this context is another name for Panaeolus cinctulus or Copelandia? which is pretty much the same thing?
