Anyone work for USPS?

I was reading another post about mail getting lost and it got me wondering if anyone here works as a mailman or something similar. I've been receiving and tracking alot of packages lately and it got me thinking about just how big of an operation it is. It's crazy how a package from across the country gets to my doorstep 2 days after I ordered it. It's got to be such a complex and difficult process.
I always hear the term of "going postal" and I'm starting to understand why. Being a postman has got to be a difficult job. Like they say rain, sleey, or snow the mail gets delivered, or something to that effect. We had about 3 months of temperatures in the teens or lower and I always got my mail and the heat in the summer is also bad here.
So is anyone here a mailman or work for the post office or know someone who does? I'd like to get some perspective on just how hard and how complicated it is to do this type of work.

Never been one but my uncle was a postman for a long ass time. He enjoyed it. He delivered. And the pay is not bad at all. Around here I think they start around 24-25/hr. He liked it a lot. You get to drive around, walk around, be outside a lot, most people are pretty nice to you, he said he would sometimes get old ladies offering him tea or whatever and sometimes even get tips.

i work for a mail house basically means we print and tray all the shit according to their specs and they are the delivery peeps..
yes the operation is ridiculous. and they have even some stupid ass shit rules so their automation equipment wont fuck up.. for instance, even if we have one 6x9 postcard it HAS to go into a 2 foot tray. instead of a 8in tray.

That's pretty cool. Did he work in a relatively mild climate or was it did he work at the south pole?

Dang pretty anal about stuff eh? So do you like what you do? How do you become a postman? Do you have to work your way up from the bottom or do you just apply and take a test? The only reason I ask is because I was thinking of switching careers and I was looking into becoming a mail carrier.

The only bad thing about being a postman would be huge savage dogs chasing you through random yards

anal is an understatement. i have no idea how to get into postman positions. i only print and deliver the stuff that says hey DTC you got this that or the other. We work very very closely with the post office. we put about 4 million pieces of mail in the post office a month

My friend's wife works in the post office. She says she mostly sits on her ass. Of course it's a small town post office.

This was in VA so all 4 seasons. But yeah I imagine the job varies drastically depending on what position you have (delivery, driver/transporter, in the office or warehouse) and where you are located. Overall though I've heard pretty good things about it. It seems to be a solid gig.

My father worked for the post office for about 4 years, terrible unions, decent benefits and avg 15-16$ per hr.
