I've just inoculated a bulk substrate, but I have to go out of town in six days and will be about of town for ten. How can I stall or possibly pause the colonization when I leave in six days? Read around and search engine only brings up how to stop stalling grows not how to implement stalling lol which makes sense but I've heard possibly refrigerating it? Or just drop the temperature really low, barely within growth range. Any other ideas? Anyone experience similar situation? Could I get a friend to just keep patching/casing it while I'm gone? If goes as planned it'll probably reach 100% a few days or so before I'm back in town.

I'm actually in the exact same predicament. I'm leaving town on the 16th for a week and I spawned a tub on the 4th. I'm going to let it fully colonize, case it, and fruit it when I get back. Your timeframe is a little more forgiving. If you just spawned it today you should be fine to just leave the tub taped up and fruit it when you return. As for stalling growth, I don't think you can do it this late in the game without a walk-in fridge. You would have been much better off (and me too ) just refrigerating the spawn. Lessons learned eh?

If you have a very cold basement that would probably be sufficient but if it's small enough I would put it in the fridge wrapped with plenty of plastic. -john

Always good to let a sub consolidate for at least a few days, up to a week, before you case or put into fruiting conditions. I'd just leave it alone. You're going to have a nice welcome home present for yourself.

Yeah you have a lot of leeway. I once let a tub go for 2 weeks before fruiting it, but it pinned the day after I added a casing layer. I'm thinking about bagging my tub to increase the co2 even further. The 2 biggest pinning triggers (besides full colonization) are evaporation of water off the substrate and a drop in co2, so as long as you keep the humidity inside the tub at maximum and the co2 high, it won't go into full blown fruiting.

Well, I really wish I had a fridge that could hold a 66qt monotub
One day, when I build my dream house, it will be complete with a walk in fridge that I can use to store inconveniently timed tubs.

Not sure I would even want to stall it. Just leave it at room temp and it should ready to put into fruiting when you return home.... prolly be knotted up bigtime with a few pins.... I doubt it would hurt it at any rate. Once you put into fruiting and provide FAE it will blow up man....

Yeah I'm wondering if I should even case mine. Maybe I'll just ignore it until I get back. I'll return on the 22nd, so exactly 2 weeks, and this is what it looks like now, spawned with 4 quarts of rye and 6 slurried PF cakes.

Damn... I didn't realize how far along it was colonized.
Not so sure about my previous post now that I've seen the sub...
As far as casing, that's up to you and for most cubes optional.
I usually case mine though since it stays fairly dry here....

I usually case because I live in the desert, but we've had a lot of rain since it's monsoon season. I'm gonna case it as soon as it's fully colonized and put it into fruiting when I get back. Don't see any other real options.

I'm thinking it will be okay given my experience with an AA+ tub that I let sit for almost 2 weeks after full colonization. If the mushrooms finish before I get back and look shitty upon my return, I'll make chocolate with them.

If this is a 66 qt monotub and you JUST spawned it (within the last 24 - 48 hours) 10 days is perfect for colonization time. You may even have a couple pins. I really wouldn't worry. Just put it into fruiting conditions when you come back.
If you really really just spawned it you're fine.
