Depression and mushroom use
    #21915661 - 07/08/15 03:52 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I'm not going to get into my life story with this post, but in short this is the issue i'm having.

I was once extremely depressed and this lasted for many years. Thankfully i had a life changing experience with Mushrooms that changed me completely and for the last few years I've been dong unbelievably well.

In the last few months I've been slipping slowly back into depression and drug use etc. Its an excruciatingly slow process but i can tell life is losing its beauty every day.

I'm pretty sure that if i went to the mushroom for help again i could renew myself again and find some new inspiration, as many people do. If it wasn't for this fear that i have for the mushroom. The last major trip that i had (the life changing trip) was terrifying beyond words. And although its one of the best decisions i ever made, i cannot consciously push myself off that cliff.

I've developed a serious fear of mushrooms and now i don't know what to do. I practice Tibetan Buddhism and meditate daily. I practice mindfulness, and i do my best to accept all of life but i can't seem to stop comparing today's happiness to yesterdays happiness. I'm feeling a little lost. Thanks in advance for any insight.

I am in the same boat as you, although, with much more experience under my belt than you having to do with mushroom use, as far as youve explained.
This is how and what I do:

Nothing will ever be able to quel (extenguish) the fear of taking mushrooms. The fear of feeling or seeing things that will definately frighten you beyond words, possibly.
But we all take them for a purpose, whether its to overcome personal problems, depression, or just for fun:

Prepare your mind a few days in advance for when you will take them.
Prepare your dose.
When your about to take them, a few minutes or minute beforehand.
Look yourself in the mirror.....smile....tell yourself WHY your going to do this, set a goal of WHAT YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE by doing this. Smile, laugh....
It will all be alright...
Then dose...Relax....and enjoy.

I guess i just don't have that go with the flow mentality i use to have. In the end its more important to explore the mind and find happiness than be comfortable. i get what your saying But god damn man its still hard to do.

I don't doubt i would survive the experience and get through it somehow, i guess i'm wondering if it would be worth it. There's almost no way to know if the experience would have the same positive effects, and there's always the possibility that it would have a negative effect.

Another fear i have about it is the little bit of mental illness that runs in my family. I'm pretty mentally sound as far as i know, but the psychological fear of the illness is bad in itself.

you're not ready. I dont think ill ever be ready to take any psychedelic every again. Im sometimes afraid to even drink..

With everything going on in the world right now and the accelerating events of doom happening, I feel as if God is putting us all through tests of faith and the end is near. I'm to fucked up to believe otherwise so for me psyches only make my thoughts worse.

Its up to you if you want to try again but from the OP id say no...atleast not for a while.

When I'm scared shitless of tripping, if I just say fuck it and do it I usually have the most amazing experiences. I like to compare it to climbing a mountain, its scary as fuck to climb to the top but once you do your rewarded with an amazing view.

:whathesaid: microdosing has been known to do plenty of amazing things for a lot of people. just don't let it become the source of your happiness

If you have depression I suggest seeing a therapist and talking to them about it.  If you find a douche therapist find another one until you find someone you feel you can talk too.

Eventually I started on an SSRI for anxiety and depression.  It's been nice.

I feel the exact same way man like I feel I'm actually taking two steps back by taking shrooms. Then again I'm so indecisive I'd take them just to take them and trip face for the gloyer of the trip.

there's nothing more for me to learn in a sense...
I'm an organic veggie Gardner,  I understand myself and emotions now. Its like beating a dead horse if I take shrooms for learning or depression I'm no addict so its not gonna help me stop anything I don't do.

if you have fear of the mushroom don't eat. Best trip I had was when I was extremely enthusiastic about tripping I did tones of preparing, meditation while I was in the bath tub with a candle and relaxing music.

we all hope you pull threw it . We all get depressed in some form I think.

Thats bad advice IMO.

People consider psychedelics to be the therapist, which is why he is considering this/asking for opinions.

Everyone knows you can go see a professional person.

I still eat shrooms and they are therapeutic.  I also see a therapist.  Depression kills people.  OP should look at all their options.

Well, what can you do? Do you really think that it depends on you what you do next? What you do next depennds on so many trillions of variables that you are not even consciusly aware of! Are you the one who is supplying the electricty that is flashing around in your brain about to allow you to think your next thought? Hey, man, it's just happening! What you do next is about as dependent on your careful planning as a lightening strike. Relax.

Psychedelics can't be depended on for a pleasurable experience. Their healing power comes from your ability to relate to and integrate the trip into your psyche and life. You can build up self-confidence against these fears without tripping.

That's crap, do some exercise like walking at least, get some vitamin C tablets, eat healthier, bang your girlfriend more often unless you don't have one.. then get yourself a fleshlight or a jar of olives

Oh and my reply to your thread is that after having a horrifying trip on a psychedelic.. your mind becomes stronger and you will most likely never have a bad trip again. I've tried doing a lot of shit to make myself have a bad trip like watch porn/horror movies/thinking about my lonely current self/ex women/ etc but it never gets frightening/depressing. I'm too worried about having a bad trip because my mind loves to start thinking about fucked up shit on the come up, yet when it does come up I say fuck it and roll with it, even if a person got killed in front of me then I'd just simply walk away. I'm not the happiest person either.

Conclusion: Take the fucking shrooms in a nice setting with your favorite music and blast off.

You won't die, but if you do then it was meant to be anyway.

Mushrooms are kind of like a reset button sometimes when it comes to depression , at least for me

I would just start with a real low dose if youre scared, it might even be enough anyways, but chances are once youve broken the ice youll want to take more

Man, I'm in a similar situation as the OP. Life just feels overwhelming at times but I think you can get through it with or without mushrooms. Mushrooms have helped many people but most importantly, you have to be willing to make changes in your life.

Thanks everyone, Lots of good advice. I'm not interested in therapy or any mainstream medical treatments. Microdosing sounds like a possibility. I'm a big fan of terence mckenna and his idea of dosage and the true psychedelic experience, but maybe a less intense experience would be nice.

I understand that you can't depend on psychedelics for a pleasurable experience, for me the experience is about strengthening and renewing yourself just as people have mentioned in this thread. Its about learning to let go, and i understand that. I guess i'll probably just go for it at some point. Gotta let go of all those insecurities and go for it if you ever want to get somewhere.
