Just wanted to let ya'll know that if you have a Winco by you have a steady supply of wheat berry for .50 cents a pound. I've been looking everywhere for
a local place to get some and this is the first store I've found. Hope this helps someone out.

Red wheat berries? They are different from rye I think?
Try using whole oats from a feed store usually get 50lbs for like $8 and it is very similar to rye berries.

Loving this thread; I could use all the good deals I can get Is this a good price for agar? http://www.amazon.com/TELEPHONE-Brand-Powder-16-50-Pound/dp/B007WZGP14 I'm trying to do the math to find out how much I'm actually getting, giving me a headache.
Also, is $20 a kilo a good price?

Look in the search function for wheat berry tek. I think it is pretty much the same prep as rye just not the same as far as what mushies will thrive best on.
Mushies will grow on anything. People try some pretty crazy grains an what you have will most likely work great.

Wheat berries work great for spawn. For agar, go to whole foods and ask for the Now brand agar powder. It's more expensive than the telephone but it's a lot more common. The one I work at sells it in bulk, because I'm a purchaser for the store

Use whole oats from a feed store.
It is easy to prep an has alot of what mushies want and need.
It cost from $8-$13 for a 50lb bag.
No soak. Just boil for 20 mins strain for an hour an jar and pc for 90mins @ 15psi.
Alot of people say good things of whole oats

Wheat is fine, I am currently using barley as its the cheapest the petshop sell. Wheat was the cheapest before and worked fine.
In europe rye grains seem to be harder to get and people pay over the odds for them since most US guides say to use rye. It can be got in health shops but I have never seen rye going cheap in feedstores/pet shops.

Yeah I can't find a specific tek but I am seeing wheat berries substituted a lot with no problems. I can't see paying 10$ a bag from a health food store for rye berries so wheat it is!
