Parasol mushroom (Lepiota Procera)?
    #21915178 - 07/08/15 01:57 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Habitat:
Was growing singly on grass in front of a single deciduous tree (species not known)

Gills:
White print, Gills free, (see picture)

Stem:
10" long, 1.5-2cm thick, pale brown/cream color, texture slightly scaly/reticulated, hollow, relatively thin compared to other mushrooms of this size.

Cap:
Diameter 6", pale buff brown with darker scales and darker knob in center, somewhat wooly. Not much flesh, almost all gills.

Spore print color:
White

Bruising:
None.

Other information:
The scent is hard to describe, it is not unpleasant. Maybe somewhat buttery but that is a stretch.

Also, the veil was not present on the stipe but I looked around where I found the mushroom and found substantial remnants of it laying on the ground.

Yes, I would call it that or Macrolepiota procera or something similar due to the snake like pattern on the stipe.

Ok. I ate a little piece of it fried in butter and it was delicious. If I don't get sick I'll eat the rest in a few days, depending on how well it stores in the fridge.

I did extensive research and was more than fairly certain. Furthermore the only Poisonous mushroom of that size and macroscopic description is Chlorophyllum Molybdites (not deadly) and I have experience with that mushroom and was 100% certain it was not that mushroom as the spore print was white. I appreciate your concern, but I made an educated decision and the burden of my risk lays on me. The mushroom was hardly unID'd. I made the original ID myself before posting, I was looking for confirmation. The reason I said I was a little scared is because I was eating a wild mushroom that I had never ID'd before.

Here is a picture of 3 varieties of bolete/pored mushrooms that are very likely edible that I did not fry up and eat, simply because I could not identify them to exact species.
