Hpoo tray. Contam or just fluffy mycelium? Please help.
    #21914675 - 07/08/15 12:01 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I've made up a tray following a tek I found on here with Hpoo and rye grain. After a week it looks like the following photos.
I'm thinking it could be a bit of cobweb but I'm unsure so could do with a few other sets of eyes.
If it is cobweb, what's the best way to get rid with H2O2 without making the tray too wet?

It should only take 7-10 days to be ready to fruit. I don't see cobweb anywhere but the best way to get rid of cobweb is tossing In the trash.

Thanks for the reply. Also, the bottom doesn't even look colonised. Not compared to the top. Is this an issue?

Those light wispy grey strands could be cobweb mold or just early mycelium.  The tub is still colonizing though, so misting with H202 would require you to take the entire lid off, slowing down the colonization and damaging mycelium.  H202 does in fact damage mycelium.  If it turns out to be cobweb mold before full colonization it must be trashed.

What else did you mix the horse manure with? It typically should not be used alone.  Vermiculite with horse manure is a good substrate to start out with.

Ah this is something I may of missed. It was purely a mix of hpoo and rye. I'll take note of that for next time. Many thanks!

That looks really wet. I use pure manure. It has bits of straw that tag along but it mostly is hpoo. Secret is not let it get too wet. It'll be nice and fluffy that way.

True.  It is possible to use just horse manure, especially if it has a bit of straw mixed in.  When starting out, bringing substrates to field capacity can be a difficult learning process.  By adding vermiculite it can be more forgiving.

Word. It is more forgiving. Still you gotta learn field capacity 1 way or another.

looks like cobweb to me. chunk it. if its an isolated patch after full colonization there are things you can do to kill it. but if its prior to colonization chunk it.
