Pope 'plans to chew coca leaves during Bolivia visit' * 2
    #21914575 - 07/08/15 11:35 AM (8 years, 6 months ago)

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-33312962

Pope Francis has requested to chew coca leaves during his forthcoming visit to Bolivia, according to Bolivian Culture Minister Marko Machicao.
Coca, the raw ingredient for cocaine, has been used in the Andes for thousands of years to combat altitude sickness and as a mild stimulant.

Mr Machicao said the government offered the Pope coca tea and the pontiff had "specifically requested" to chew coca.
The Vatican has not yet commented. The Pope travels to Bolivia on 8 July.

Coca leaves were declared an illegal substance under the 1961 UN convention on narcotic drugs.
But the growing of coca leaves for religious and medicinal purposes is legal and licensed in Bolivia.

Many indigenous Bolivians consider the coca bush a sacred plant and chewing its leaves or brewing them into a tea is very popular.
Bolivia's 2009 constitution even declared the coca leaf "a cultural patrimony".

President Evo Morales, who used to be a coca grower, has long campaigned to decriminalise the consumption of coca leaves.
If the Pope were to chew coca leaves during his visit to the Andean country it would provide strong backing for Mr Morales's campaign.

"We will be awaiting the Holy Father with the sacred coca leaf," Mr Machicao said.

The Pope's visit to Bolivia is part of a larger tour of Latin American countries which will also take him to Ecuador and Paraguay.

This is great, he is respecting the cultural traditions of a sacred plant that has long history of use. And only recently has been abused to such an extent. I bet there's gonna be some sort of backlash from someone who doesn't like the idea of it.

Respecting the cultural traditions? He knows his old evil ass will get sick from altitude sickness, if he does not chew the leaves or drink the tea. He does not give a shit about respecting cultural traditions. He's even calling for a new world order, but you don't see that in the evening news:

http://www.charismanews.com/world/50444-pope-francis-calls-for-new-world-order-again

http://www.naturalnews.com/038477_Pope_world_government_New_Order.html

And please, watch this, it's 3 parts:

Even if it is just for altitude sickness, then so be it. It's still a push for the coca plant. And while I didn't watch the videos, the link about Pope Francis wanting "marxism" is idiotic. Wanting the betterment of human's social enviroment and not wanting people to destroy ecuador just to make money is not evil.

I'll watch some of the videos when I get on later though.

Lets see if those thoughts change after you watch the video and see how the holy catholic church is at the heart of it all and running the show. If people only knew...

i agree that the catholic church is evil, but this pope does some good things.
Perhaps it's only manipulation, but at least it seems like something positive.

Gotta keep up the manipulation to look good. Can't appear as though they are evil. But what good are the little good things that they appear to do, when the evil they do crushes all that 1000x over? Did you watch that documentary?? Anyone?

You scrubs act like this is new. Pope John Paul II drank KAVA while visiting with the pacific islanders.  Way more intense than chewing coca leaves . Dude may as well have a cup of strong coffee if thats all it takes for you to act like hes some revolutionary :rofl2:. Hell there was a previous pope (I forget who) that used to drink COCAINE fortified wine on the daily :ruggedwink:

Ya because liberals twist his comments into bullshit, and think hes suddenly gonna secularize the Church. Even IF that was his desire its not gonna happen.

You will not get your guilt free birth control

Your homosexual sacramental marriages

Or anything of the sort!

it's good to remember that it is mostly manipulation,
probably to make the catholic church more appealing.

Also, keep in mind he IS the catholic pope,
has already pissed off a lot of traditionalists.

There are problems with any religion, but he can't change everything..
They would just kick him out or something. Have to work in the system.

But thats my argument here. You know NOTHING about the Catholic Church or its workings. There are been such corrupt popes in the past, and not one of them could be "Kicked out".

The pope also is bound to Church Tradition. He can not suddenly change dogma simply to please the masses, even if he WANTED to

From what I have heard about this pope, he seems to be an improvement compared to some previous popes. I don't think liberals think hes trying to secularize the church, but he is trying to bring about changes that seem necessary given the intellectual climate today. I like how he said that atheists can get to heaven.

I still think the church is corrupt, but the pope seems to be on the right side of all the issues (unless you think the liberal intelligentsia is devising these issues as a means to further tax themselves to the benefit of no one).

What about his opposition to condom/contraceptive use to prevent the massive spread of infectious and fatal disease?

Just one example of the disturbing way in which his bronze age philosophy informs his values.

Hes not for premarital sex either! You would have a valid argument there if he told people to keep fucking outside of marriage......but he doesnt. The Church calls for a husband and wife to be the ONLY ones who engage in sex. Thus no birth control under those circumstances is a perfectly reasonable option

I want to ask honestly. When I watch that video it makes me smile, but I realize some "Facts" put fourth are incorrect, incomplete, or do satire at some horrible things that have happened within the Catholic Church.

But how does it make you feel? I watch that video and I can laugh and yet keep my faith. But do you watch that video and simply use it as an excuse to avoid the Catholic Church?

The pope is now and always will be the public face of the catholic church. He isn't chosen by God, he's chosen by the playmakers in the catholic church, the really big picture guys. I'm not going to share any opinions of the church or of the pope here, just truth.

Whatever opinions, thoughts, or actions we see coming from the pope was pre-planned and pre-determined when they selected him. His thoughts opinions and actions are WHY they selected him.

The catholic church is one of the largest money making organizations in the world. When you look at any company's actions at the highest level the decision making process will be forever determined by their thoughts of what will yield the highest profit. (They may not always make the right decision, that's human error, but the intent will always be $) Example: a company makes the decision to go green which costs a ton of money, not because it's good for the environment but because their experts have calculated an increase in total income netting them more then the cost of the green option.

These facts hold true whether we're talking about a hippie, gay loving, drug snorting pope or a marxist evil crimes-against-humanity pope. If you're looking at the pope and trying to judge him it's about as useful as screaming at the manager of your local Nike store for using child labor to make their products.

metaphoric said:These facts hold true whether we're talking about a hippie, gay loving, drug snorting pope or a marxist evil crimes-against-humanity pope. If you're looking at the pope and trying to judge him it's about as useful as screaming at the manager of your local Nike store for using child labor to make their products.

You could go all the way with that perspective, and cease to judge anything, if you want

Quote:

Pratitya samutpada is sometimes called the teaching of cause and effect, but that can be misleading, because we usually think of cause and effect as separate entities, with cause always preceding effect, and one cause leading to one effect. According to the teaching of Interdependent Co-Arising, cause and effect co-arise (samutpada) and everything is a result of multiple causes and conditions...

In the sutras, this image is given: "Three cut reeds can stand only by leaning on one another. If you take one away, the other two will fall." For a table to exist, we need wood, a carpenter, time, skillfulness, and many other causes. And each of these causes needs other causes to be. The wood needs the forest, the sunshine, the rain, and so on. The carpenter needs his parents, breakfast, fresh air, and so on. And each of those things, in turn, has to be brought about by other causes and conditions.

If we continue to look in this way, we'll see that nothing has been left out. Everything in the cosmos has come together to bring us this table. Looking deeply at the sunshine, the leaves of the tree, and the clouds, we can see the table. The one can be seen in the all, and the all can be seen in the one. One cause is never enough to bring about an effect. A cause must, at the same time, be an effect, and every effect must also be the cause of something else. Cause and effect inter-are. The idea of first and only cause, something that does not itself need a cause, cannot be applied.
