How do people feel about Straw these days? Straw/Straw+Coir

It seems straight straw is not a popular choice currently.
The people that believe substrate has a large effect on potency seem more poo oriented, while those who don't use coir. Straw is harder to prep than coir, that goes without saying.
Is it much more contamination prone than poo when properly prepared, and does that still go for chemical+heat pasteurization?
A lot of people mentioned in old threads that they felt it doesn't multi-flush very well. Is this just rhetoric?
Is it due to lower water capacity? Can this be mitigated by dunking/lower spawn ratio? Does straw not dunk well?
Does it contaminate early due to exposed partially digested straw offering a nutritious breeding ground?
Are these claims based on suboptimal prep like pieces of straw too large to colonize well and poor compression of the straw?
I'll definitely be giving straw a shot. I'm also curious about a 50/50 Coir Straw substrate. It occurred to me that the coir might fill in the space between the straw quite nicely, offer a bit of contam protection (not much exposed or wet straw,) better water capacity, and require much less substrate compression.
The straw in turn might fluff up the coir a bit and add some nutritional value. Also, if the coir is prepped on the dry side, the straw could be poorly drained and it would all even out (with some practice.)
Why do I ask? I don't like verm. I don't like paying for it. I don't like picking it off my fruits.
Coir just seems too easy, and makes me feel like a retard every time I prep a brick. What could be more American than having a problem solved by grass and shit, then solving it by using a compressed brick of weird tree fiber imported asia instead. Hope there's some child labor and leaking diesel freighters in that story as well. Settling for feeling only half-retarded would be fine by me though

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

i.ve always wondered about straw as well so earlier this week when my local hydro shop was out of coir i figured what the hell so i went to a local big-box store and picked up a bale of EZ-straw which is just pre shredded straw with some guar gum in it as a tacking agent for holding grass seed in place so i ended up using 50%straw 25% verm 25% poo properly pasteurized and spawned to a mono with 7 qts of oats i dont know shit about straw except for what i've seen on lets grow mushrooms just thought i'd share the pre-shredded straw find as i hear its a pain to shred unless you have a wood chipper as soon as i find the right poly tubes i plan on doing some straight straw logs which if you want to get away from verm seems like a sound option IMO if your interested i could report back on my results

Too easy? Doesn't sound like a good reason not to use a substrate
I haven't noticed a significant difference between straw and coir in terms of yield or contamination rate.

I shred my straw with a leaf shredder. Easy, fast, cheap. Bulk sub is, in descending order of amount, Straw, Coir, Verm, Worm Castings, Gypsum, Coffee Grounds, Kelp Meal. I love a diverse substrate. Guess that's the organic vegi gardener in me... Fantastic results!
