Issues Initiating Fruiting
    #21914195 - 07/08/15 09:45 AM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Attempting to get the fruiting process started for a couple of fully colonized rye grain jars. I've read a couple threads saying it is possible to fruit directly out of the jars and that is what I'd like to do. As this is a first grow (and being done for personal use) yield is not on my priority list. I just want to get these to start fruiting. In later grows I may try monotubs/shotgun chambers.

I've got both jars in a mushroom grow bag slightly clipped at the top with holes on all sides, perlite for RH. On a 12/12 light cylce with desk lamp and I mist/fan x2 a day. RH has stayed at 95-99% for about a week and a half now but still I'm seeing no formations of pins. Myc still smells great and has a beautiful piercing white color so I don't think there are any signs of contams. I just recently setup a vertical fan that I now have running to try and bump up FAE while I'm not home.

Any suggestions to get this thing to kickstart into pinning? Any tricks that you know of that will force the myc to start pinning?

Also, how long can myc last in this condition? If I do not get the jars to fruit, will it start to go bad after a while? Thanks

They are in grow bags,  how are you providing fresh air?

The grow bags are not closed all the way. I've simply placed the jars in the bag and clipped it in 2 spots at the top to try and keep humidity in. I open up the bag fully fan out as much as a can. The FAE may be the problem.

I've just recently punched holes in all sides of the bags and setup the fan to send in fresh air through the sides during the day.

ive grown them out in the grow bags with the filters with just leaving the top open,, if you punch holes in the side of the bag and have a fan blowing on it your just gonna dry it out

How long did you wait before you saw any signs of pin formations?

If they are PF cakes did you dunk and roll them?  If not do it now.  Or if the cakes are light weight and not pinning you can redunk them.

But my guess is you need more fresh air.  You can simply push the bag down to remove the air and then expand the bag to bring in fresh air,  do that a few times a day and mist prior to doing it.

Not PF Cakes but colonized rye grains. I did a night of bottom watering before the bags to re-hydrate. The grains have never been removed from the jars to reduce chances of contam.
