i just read this in magic mushroom around the world by jochen gartz: Temperatures over 50°C(122f) cause psilocybin to break down into its derivatives. In laboratory settings, mushrooms are usually dried at room temperatures. Sometimes, fruiting bodies are also freeze-dried for analysis. Freeze-dried mushrooms, however, have a highly porous texture that causes the alkaloids to break down relatively quickly, if the samples are stored at room temperature (20°C). For that reason, freeze-dried samples for biochemical analysis are stored at -10°C prior to alkaloid extractions or chromatography testing.
are those info outdated? i always dry mushroom at the 130 to 150 range in oven after fan drying em for 24hr or something just to get em crack dry.

Im not sure, I just took a batch of shrooms, dried them in a standard old circular food dehydrator till cracker dry, then grinded them to a fine powder in a coffee grinder. The powder was white! I expected it to blue but I guess not. After dry the shrooms were mostly white aswell. I think this food dehydrator is 135-165 somewhere around there.
If that paragraph above were true, wouldnt the mushrooms, and powder have turned all blue/bruised?

Where did this idea of psilo breaking down at these temps come from and why do so many believe that it happens? Is it an outdated belief that's just now being dispelled?...or was it just borne out of ignorance and always considered false by those 'in the know'? No slight to you OP, I wouldn't know either if it wasn't for the current TC's...I'm just wondering.

Or what about on the opposite end, is it safe to store in temps 50℉ or less without potency loss.

First time I heard it was used as the explanation for why smoking them is so ineffective. Temperature does affect how quickly the actives degrade. Significant potency loss though happens after periods of weeks and months not hours. The temperature you store them at for long periods of time is far more important than the temperature you dry them at for short periods of time.
