medical question for those with heart conditions
    #21912846 - 07/08/15 12:18 AM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Help! My S/O and I haven't had much experience with psychedelia. We only first experienced it a couple of years back. Later that year, my significant other dropped over of a cardiac arrest and was clinically dead for nine minutes, and is very lucky to be alive. Ever since he's not been quite the same, and has a defibrillator in his chest to shock it back should he have another episode. Anyway, I tried LSD for the first time recently and immensely enjoyed it. My significant other really wants to also. So one night recently I gave him a very small dose (about 40-50 MCG) and at first thought nothing was going to happen. Then he had a delayed reaction. His heart began racing and it freaked us both out. I gave him a benzo and calmed him down and it eventually went away. Anyway, he really wants to try psychedelics, and I'd love to have that experience with him. The question is, are there any psychedelics out there which don't cause vasoconstriction and are easy on the heart? Would taking a beta blocker help offset those effects? Does anyone have any helpful advice?

I wish I could answer your question with hard data. I can't. Stay away for LSD and LSA. Your already know that. Mushrooms don't seem to help or hurt the heart. But people can have panic attacks on shrooms, and indeed on any other psychedelic. If you do decide to try something, start really small. Let him build up some confidence that he can do it, then he will be less prone to panic and to getting his heart galloping.

I really wouldn't recommend that you friend experiment with any psychedelics. I'm no physician...but, every psych that I have taken has had some vasoconstriction and accelerated heart rate associated with them for at least a part of the trip.

Maybe Natureboy could chime in....He is actually a physician and would better be able to address your dilemma.:sunny::peace:

:whathesaid:
Don't risk a heart attack just to trip.

My lifelong friend has a heart condition (IDK what it is - not heart attacks though), and he had to swear off mush and pretty much every other psych we have tried due to the strain they feel on their heart. Better safe than sorry IMO.

'Which road do I take?' she asked.
'Where do you want to go?' was his response.
'I don't know', Alice answered.
'Then', said the cat, 'it doesn't matter.'

I just came across this on the web:Psilocybin mushrooms can also cause an incredibly fast heart rate, and in some people, that heartbeat is also irregular. For people with underlying heart conditions or congenital heart abnormalities, this fast heart rate can be deadly. People hallucinating on mushrooms might also wrongly interpret this fast heart rate as a sign of danger, and it can make a hallucination much worse. These people may land in the hospital due to their fears, but there are no real medications that can be given to stop the mushrooms from working in the person’s body. Instead, people must simply wait for the mushrooms to wear off, and accept cardiac medications and supportive care, if needed, to prevent a serious side effect from taking hold. The wait can be difficult for some people to tolerate.

Take it for what it is worth. This is from a website dedicated to steering teens away from psychedelics. They exaggerate many aspects of their information in favor of their agenda.
