The trays cost as much as the whole unit though.

I just dnt think they wld work nearly as well. I mean yea a pack of 5 is 20 to 30 bones but they last forever. 24 hours in front of a fan an 18-24 hours in my dehydrator an all cracker. I have an Excalibur with remove able trays now fr larger fruits and my nesco now with 10 trays. Talking about drying a load at once.

True that. They had packs of extra trays right next to it, but the manual recommends not using more than 8 trays at a time. But shit, 8 trays could easily hold several ounces, and since it only takes a few hours to fully dry them, you could easily dry out a pound (talking dry weight obviously) a day. And if you're at the point of drying several pounds a day, shit, another $40 dehydrator wouldn't be an issue.
And true, for $40, fuck any other way. Fuck desiccant! I've seen a lot of cheap people on here looking to take shortcuts every way possible, and it seems to me like underage kids who don't get much of an allowance and can't afford a trip to Wal-Mart.
Honestly, Wal-Mart is fucking awesome. 75%+ of the materials to grow can be bought there, and the workers are so clueless, you could load them up all in 1 cart and not raise any suspicion. I remember buying about 6 dozen mason jars there, and the lady just asked me "You must really like making jelly".

I met a hippie looking guy with chained wallet long hair who knew what was up in Walmart. An employee. I asked him where the alcohol burners was an he seen the jars and gloves an said shrooms. I used to do em back in the 70s. I was like I have no clue wtf yu tlkin about. Lol. But yea after sitting in front of a fan for 24 hours I cld probably fit 10 to 12 oz neatly stacked in 5 trays.

Lol yeah i hear you. I remember feeling soo sketched out getting a 12 pack of quart jars, a giant bag of bird seed, and polyfill. The lady at the cash register gave me a classic "what the fuck" look.

you would be naive to think any one but people who have looked up how to grow mushrooms would be able to put together what you're buying
if you get mason jars, grain, RTV silicone, polyfil, gloves, isopropyl alcohol, a drill bit, some tubs, a food dehydrator
and put all those in your cart no one is still going to know what the fuck you're doing, and if they do, they're going to be the person that will say good luck and right on.
besides there's more edible growers in the states than magic mushroom growers. furthermore the best way to get in trouble, caught, or examined more closely is to be that sketched out kid.

I agree. My friends that have been with me when I went to gt supplies are astounded how natural I am buying these things. Like the rye Berry's. I gt them from a organic food grocery store. I walk in the manager comes up points at me an says special order rye berries. Then I always gt to the register with em an a new employee goes what yu gnna do with 100 lbs of rye berries. " my wife has a small business making and selling rye bread an baked goods". When your buying yu the only one that really knows what yu doin.act like it

I tell the people at the whole foods store I buy the rye berries at that I'm growing mushrooms with them. I assume they think they're edibles. either way what are they going to do?

I'm the same way, I go in all smooth. I always use a fake name and cash when i get rye berries or anything else. I tell them i mix it in with horse food.
Its the best way to explain buying 100 lbs of rye grain hahaha

Same here. If they ask what I'm doing, I start to tell them about the process and just use a bunch of big words. I can get through 2-3 sentences before their faces blank out and you can tell they're not following anymore.
Usually they don't even ask or give a fuck though.

I get grains in the pet shop and tell them its for mushrooms. I was questioning if the grains were steel cut or not, as they were in brown paper bags taped up. They are always asking what animals I have so I just say none, its for growing mushrooms.
They now have clear bags for some grains and they see me going through them all wondering what I am doing -I was looking for ones with the least cracked grains.
Reminds me of breaking bad where Walt spots a shopping trolley full of meth cooking stuff
Back on drying, has anybody used a philips airfryer? mine can be set as low as 80C (176F) and has a high flow of air. They may need to be trapped/sandwiched in some sort of mesh as they would be blown around.

I just got the same dehydrator, the lady asked me if I was making jerky, I said sure why not. I can't escape nosey ppl. I got up early and was drilling holes in a tote one day, when my wife's friend pulls up. She asked me what the hell I was doing, I said my friend asked me to build a box for his lizard

Totally understand your pain! I dont even grow actives so i dont have to be sneaky but i hate people (who have no interest in gardening or science) asking me what im doing. I feel like telling them "something you have no interest in nor could possibly understand, go find your own hobby instead of buttin in on others'!"
